I get the dealer to change mine every time. I bought them of course. They are 2 bucks and the dealer usually has to order them. I don't mind paying for one for every change. I just keep them in the glovebox.

So I performed the VERY FIRST oil change on my Rap tonight and discovered that the plastic drain plug was broken. No way this happened while driving as she hasn’t left the pavement AND there was a stout metal plate generously protecting the area (and unscathed). I think it’s fair to say it left the factory this way. Will be going to the dealer tomorrow morning for a replacement under warranty.

Looks like something is a miss there. I have never seen that amount of dirt/debris on and around the oil pan when changing the oil. Looks very much as if your truck has gone through deep water or run pretty hard off road in the wet. The damage at the pan looks like someone has tried to leverage the drain plug "ear" up while trying to remove the plug - exactly what someone would try to do if they really didn't know how that plug is removed. The top piece also suggests some rough twisting with pliers or similar in efforts to remove it.

This Raptor has never been off-road nor has it forded through any deep water. Puddles at most. One time I drove down a wet gravel road at a campground. Explains the white spots. There is no significant dirt or debris.

And I absolutely agree, it does appear as if someone was improperly trying to open the drain plug... just not sure who or why. I ordered the truck brand new, and picked it up from the dealer within an hour of the transport truck dropping it off. This is the very first oil change and it damn sure wasn’t me who did that.

I’d bet money it left the factory that way... my question is WTF were they doing to cause that?

I was able to remove mine with my bear hands - no tools should be necessary.

Not everyone has bear hands

I'm willing to bet that was bashed while the engine was being installed in the frame. I wonder if you could see a scrape somewhere on the way down?
