Ok, so I'm gonna keep this short and sweet...

Got first oil change done at dealer yesterday (5k miles on truck) and all went smooth. Today I noticed a few drops of oil on garage floor. So I crawled under truck and noticed there was oil dripping from the back skid plate that is removed to do the oil change. Took it back to dealer, tech inspected and said it was just residual oil from the oil change. Apparently when they remove the oil filter, it makes a big mess. To me, this sounds like BS. They inspected for about 10-15 minutes and said it's good. No leak around oil pan or drain plug.

Do I have reason for concern or does the dealer's explanation sound like it could be the case? I'm going to keep an eye on it and I really hope it's not a leak somewhere.

They sure do love to make a mess during oil changes. I have some oil down around the bottom on mine too. You shouldn't be too worried, but if it bothers you just check the oil level every so often.

Yes, Gen 2.

I just can't imagine where all this residual oil is built up... and enough of it to cause an active drip after the tech "cleaned the best he could", twice.

Guess all I can do is keep an eye on it.

You will need to keep checking the pan for leaks. It is not enough for you to notice a low oil level... just makes a mess. All of these plastic pans are suspect it looks like.

When I had my oil changed at the dealer I told them to make sure it was clean. I did not want any drips from the skid plates. They did tie oil change and I watched the tech clean everything. No drips. I hate when they do not rinse the area.

When you remove the filter, it drips into the skid plate and drains out of one of the openings, so unless it continues it’s not a worry. I changed my own at 3k, but will take to the dealer at 10k for warranty

Same thing happened to me I went back had them clean it up. I verified it was cleaned while on the rack. I spoke to the service manager and asked who was coming to my home to clean the garage floor. He was embarrassed when I showed him the pictures and very apologetic and professional about it. He agreed to refund my money for the synthetic oil change.

No leak. It’s inherently difficult to do without residual, apparently. My Gen 1 did it, and my Gen 2 did as well, after its first OC last month.

I just spray the pan with A/P cleaner then hit it with the pressure washer.
