Not so much "is it capable" but "is it legal" - CHP has mandated chain checkpoints... sometimes it's waived if 4x4 with snow tires...

I was turned around 4x4 with snow tires (KO's) by the CHP - I had to carry a set or I didn't get to go up the mountain. So, it may depend on which CHP officer you get, but finding chains to fit the raptor added 2 hours to my trip. I still have them to carry, but never used.

KO2s have the snowflake winter symbol like snow tires. When I have gone through CO. the snowflake symbol and 4x4 was good to go when they had chain inspections. If you frequent those areas and they are icy then get some Goodyear Duratac tires they are avalible with studs. Two sets of wheels and tires are the way to go in terms of costs. Chains are not that fun

Glad to hear the KO2s have the snowflake winter symbol, I don't think the OEM BFG's on the gen1 had them. I asked BFG once about it an they said the OEM tires lacked the necessary siping for the snow tire rating. While that may have been the case, I will say, my gen1 loves the snow!

Extreme off-road mud terrain tire perfect for light truck owners & extreme off-roaders seeking aggressive off-road traction & excellent handling on the highway. Attractive “side biter” design & wide, deep tread grooves for superior off-road mud & snow traction performance.

Yea... lets take off my $300 off road tires made specifically for my truck and put on $200 of road tires from Walmart... Classic Leafs.

Actually I hate to do this, but lots of guys run those tires on the Raptor in the snow. We had a good number at Snoball and they all loved the tires.

Now if I was running in the mountains I would have a second set of Goodyears studded just for that purpose.

And since the KO2's are Snow rated you would not need chains since they have the snowflake making them a winter snow tire. But studded are the way to go if you actually plan on making the drive often. When I lived in CO I hated driving in the mountains even in 4wd/awd with just winer tires when things started to ice up. Even with studded tires you take it slow but its nice when you are not sliding all the time.

I have cables and have never had to put them on. I have had to show that I had them.
