There's a lot to like about the new truck. I've never argued that point. I just think a V6 in a full size truck is a disappointment.

And I personally hope they keep the 3.5 as the base engine and then offer a Raptor R with a TTV8 at a higher price point. I'd definitely park one next to my current beast :)

I feel differently, I think the new truck has very little to offer me, the only thing I really like about it so far is the interior and some of the new tech. Everything else is a huge no for me.

Absolutely, and I think it would be great to have an R version. With another 20k MSRP they can do a good deal.

Now with that being said, I would think that most people who make the "serious off-road truck" argument (not saying that's you) would want that 20k in a raptor "R" to be spent on suspension upgrades and not more power. The Gen 2 (and Gen 1) already have enough power to outrun the suspension offroad.

Yeah if you check my build thread you will see where my head is at on that issue.

But if you ask the more serious off road guys around these parts most would tell you that starting with a Raptor is a mistake in the first place and that you'd be better off with a base truck and the 5.0. That's probably what I would do if I lived out west and wanted a real desert truck.

I think you're going out of your way to make this seem really hard and you're definitely not giving Ford enough credit. These are the same guys that put a 662 horsepower mustang on the market, after all.

I do agree Ford would need to make some other changes but a bigger radiator ain't exactly rocket science. Mine cost me $979. Imagine how much less it would cost Ford.

As for the rest of the driveline, it wouldn't need to be beefed up much if they put a soft tune in the truck.

And are you certain that crash testing is required for each engine offered in the same vehicle?

I'm not trying that hard... I just mentioned all the big stuff I could think of in 5 minutes that I'm pretty sure Ford would at least have to validate, if not outright redesign.

I have NO doubt that Ford can do ANYTHING if they see a market for it (check out the awesomeness that is the Ford GT!).

My point had to do with the Market... All the required changes would cost Ford a lot of money, and would barely effect sales. Your talking a special version of an already special truck. VERY few people could or would buy it for $80-$100k. There's just no money in it.

You might say that they are losing sales without offering a V8. Personally, I hated the 6.2 and I'm much more excited about the V6TT... I think Ford will gain more customers with the V6TT than they'll lose. But we'll all find out soon once they start selling these!

I'd also argue that if you have $80k and want a desert race truck, there are WAY better ways to do it. There are some great companies building gorgeous tube-frame prerunners that will leave ANY Raptor for dead in the desert... Hell, a Rally Fighter is about $80-$100k and will crush a Raptor all day.

If it's a dedicated toy for the desert than hell, run a blown 454 LSX on methanol, 30" of wheel travel with a proper full-cage, 4-link and so-on and so-on... The sky is the limit once it doesn't have to be factory built. $80k buys a LOT of good hardware...

Yeah. I just don't think it would cost Ford all that much to do it. It's really not rocket science.

Man the old guys are still rubbing themselves dreaming about their old V8s. Thought this would have died down by now.

That's funny cause so is Ford, V8s aren't going anywhere, and I'd be willing to bet it's not gonna be the only model in the line.

Gen 1 guys: "Who cares if the Gen 2 has more power, these trucks arent meant for drag racing"

Gen 1 guys: "Im waiting for a ttv8 option so I can have ALL the powAAAAA!!!"

Gen 1 guys if the Gen 2 was actually slower in a drag race: "Hahaha what a ************* my 6.2 v8 is way faster than that ****** Ecoturd 3.5!!"

No logic in these arguments but by all means keep this thread alive!
