Final report for this. Truck is doing fine. There is still the unresolved random rattle when cold but this will wait for another day. What a rollercoaster.

Great news. My diesel noise was gone also after the initial cam phaser fix. The dealer F'd up a bunch of other **** along the way for me. Still waiting for a call back for this weeks update.

You are so lucky you have a dealer putting you in a loaner. I am out of pocket for a rental until the dealer service makes a determination. That is the salt in the wound.

update... Truck is back in the shop as of last Tuesday. No word from the dealer until today. The service rep called today to let me know that they need to replace the A/C compressor for the loud screeching and they are going to put that on my 3rd party extended warranty with my $100...
At this point nothing new to report. Same progression of tapping and screeching. I have a service appointment next week so I will update after that unless there is some new drama.
