Bump just keeping th thread alive even though I know its still early on. Any info on what is actually the missing component of the heated steering system would be very helpful. In the winter time in NYC I drive with heated steering wheel every time, so it quite important.
@NCBen great work so far, proper approach to diagnosing the problem.
This whole saga still blows my mind on lack of available replacement parts, and a permanent fix by Ford, for an increasingly common problem, especially since its been going on for at least 10 years...
My truck sold last week so I didn't get to the end of this saga. Already miss it, still an amazing machine even with the little problems it had. Honestly, the lack of parts availability on common items like the heated seat element is what appalled me most. Cars break, its normal. You go buy...
Received my heating element from Tasca but of course they sent the wrong one - replacement for the back instead of the bottom of the seat. They are the ones that changed the order to the "correct" part number for the VIN. Will have to get the right one now, the saga continues.
Small update - Tasca needed to special order the part, but at least they didn't say its not available like before! Hopefully i'll get it withing next two weeks.
I've run them for about 2k miles and couldn't be happier. Noise was primary concern for me and have to say they are very reasonable in that department. Also overall grip in any conditions is very good too, including snow. Highly recommend so far.
They are anything but weak when operating normally. There is a theory that they run so hot they burn out, with people reporting very hot seats before they go bad.
