Haven't really seen a thread where we can just talk about things to look for when buying a used Raptor. Post some links to Raptors for sale, etc. Thought I'd see if we could create a thread to discuss buying a second used Raptor or maybe your first.

Feel free to post your what to watch for and how best to check up on a used Raptor history. One obvious one is to see that it's bone stock and well taken care of.

Where's the best places to check the frame and bed for possible issues? Is Carfax the best place for history or ??

Here are a few things that I look for:

Underneath:

- cab bottom (around drain holes) for rust/corrosion
- inside the rear bumper
- dirt build up in the skid plates and the transmission braces

Engine Bay:

- Power steering pump, lines for leaks
- tie rods for tightness
- Steering linkage tight

Suspension:

- Rear shock mounts for cracks
- All shocks inspected for leaks
- Rear leaf springs for cracks / missing parts

Cab:

- Check behind the rubber door seals for rust / corrosion
- Wiring. Check the pass through wires for condition. Look under the panels for weird wiring.
- Fuse box for obvious damage
- Seat operation. Heater and cooler working.

The bottom of these trucks will tell you how hard the truck has been played with. i wouldn't necessarily rule out a modded truck, as long as it was done right. Would rather have one with all the bells and whistles as most of these mods are designed to protect them from damage.

Check the cab just above the bed rail. All my trucks have dents from the cab hitting the bed. I drive hard.

Also, take a straight edge and put it on top of the frame rail above the axle. That should show you if there is any bend in the frame.

If a private party sale, I've always Google'd the phone number listed. When I was searching for my Raptor, found it on AutoTrader. Google'd his number and it linked me to a thread on the other Raptor forum, which allowed me to go through all of his old posts and confirmed it was detailed more than it was driven.
