Sand Dunes Questions

Q1: What settings for sand? I used 4WD, Diff Lock, OFM, Trac Control Off. When I stopped for breaks or slowed too slow, the truck wouldn't spin out at all making it very slow acceleration, I don't wanna bury it but it's nice to spin out and drift but something wasn't letting it. Even in 2wd?




Whenever you stop the truck, depending on what you do (like shut it off), you'll need to go through your settings again.

You may know this and/or it may be different since you have a newer Raptor but at least on the 2010's if you kicked it into 4H (or 4L) it reset the AdvanceTrac so you needed to engage it again.

Always go with another truck. Stop on the highest ground ie dune tops or not halfway up a dune. Never go down sideways if you don't have enough momentum going up turn around and try again before you Barry yourself. Always go down straight! And air your tires down I like 18 in front 20 in rear and watch out for when traction control kicks in and when your power stearing wines lit it cool down before you blow it

Yeah I make sure the settings are all still enabled. I have an off road screen on mine that shows certain settings that's enabled, I just leave it on that screen to make sure it's all good to go! :)

Power steering res upgrade with cooler is a must in deep sand and bring extra fluid. I upgraded to ss brake lines as well. A skid plate for your two ton jack or a couple pieces of plywood in case you lose a bead. Surfing dunes is amazing, just pre run them and stay away from hard transitions.

it will kick in eventually. you can not fully disable traction control.

Tire pressure is the key, I run the same as skyscrapper above, I have been at 14 psi and have done tons of donuts at silver lake and not lost the bead on stock tires. I run manual when I'm climbing dunes but normally run in drive with everything above 3rd locked out. When it comes to jumps a downhill landing is key, flat is bad, take your time and find the right set up.

dont drift too fast in the dunes. especially with aired down tires.

He knows that for which he speaks and learned it the hard way...

These are 6000 pounds of pure roll over expectation, they are not drift vehicles. Low air pressure and drifting will result in a roll over eventually.

20 PSI is the lowest you should air down too, any lower and you can pop it off the bead real easy.. I saw this first hand...

Know where your going and always bring a second vehicle for safety.

Pre-run everything assume nothing and you will be ok...

Love the tips thanks guys. Not sure what year ranges of raptors still use power steering fluid but my 2013 doesn't, just like my old 2011 ecoboost, no power steering pump or fluid, all electronic steering.
