A little late into this but here goes... what does being military have anything to do with buying a vehicle? I am also AD USAF 15 yr E-7 and that had no bearing on weather I bought my truck... it boils down to do you like the truck?? do you have the money?? Are you willing to spend that money on a vehicle? Then there's your answer.. you'll have to deal with deployments and so on with any vehicle that you own. So either do it or don't.

BTW just my on personal opinion.. It's hard to respect a man who has a job and is being paid to have their parents pay for their car.. just saying.

I'll weigh in, but take it with a grain of salt from an old guy who probably doesn’t know shit:

1. If you can afford the truck, jump in. Gas will set you back on a monthly basis. I bought the aftermarket Ford Premium Care plan to 100K mi. I judged it a good investment and it’s already paid for itself. Find storage for your vehicle yourself, budget for it and don’t leave it at your folks house, unless they have a 5 car garage. USAA is great insurance, we’ve had it on everything (houses, boats, cars, etc.) for 30+ years.

2. If your folks are willing to throw in some cash…great, but if you get in over your head financially, consider that they will want you to make good decisions with their money too. If they are well off, they didn’t get there from pissing money away.

3. If you aren't already kicking in $$'s in a 401K or other retirement plan, start now and never touch it (including borrowing against it)....I know it's a long time from now, but you can put a 6-pack-o-Bud on my cold, dead carcass when you stare at your $2.5M retirement account and don’t have to suck at the gubbermint teet to buy a box of Cheezits.

4. As a leader in training (regardless of rank) ... first thing I always recommend is to surround yourself with people above you, and more importantly, below you who know the job and you can trust. Always be professional, don't share personal stuff, complain up the chain and for gawd's sake, don't suck up and don't pump yourself up with all your personal achievements, it makes people puke. Let your performance and behavior speak for itself. Don’t talk down to your subordinates; provide leadership (focus on process and results). Listen to the subtle messages your team gives you, watch their faces, then be decisive. If a man (or woman) doesn’t have integrity, they aint shit.

5. Congrats on attending the USNA. My oldest son is an 08 grad and is flying Growlers.

6. Finally, thank you for your service to the USA.

How come no one's asked: why not buy a '11 or '12 used, low mileage Raptor? Save you at least $10k, you just have to search for it.

Because too often it's easier to order a 13 at invoice than find an used one for a decent price.

True, but if he's a real Asian (like me), then he would try to find the most vehicle for the lowest price!

Hahahahaha, cherry. Expect to get questioned about it. AD E-4 USA, you know how much shit I catch for all my toys? But hey, I also didn't join for the money.

Looks like you're in the same boat, just do what makes you happy. I just got off a 2 month stint where I questioned trading in my truck to downsize to a luxury car - then I went out in the Barstow desert and that's usually all it takes for me to come back to reality and realize I have a badass truck.

Speaking of which, too many gad-damn Raptors on Irwin… I think there are like 8 or something like that. If you're on here, and Irwin and ever see a black screw with a DEA hat on the dash and a big ass yellow sticker on the back that says "LOOK TWICE SAVE A LIFE", that's me. /plug

Go with white. I kinda wish I'd waited and found a white one. I really like the idea of line x'ing the flares and good vents. Get some good contrast going.
