Forgot to add, but I spent a fraction in comparison to what those CAI intakes cost..been offroading with it a ton...I just come home, remove my filter, drop in stock air filter while my KN is getting cleaned and dried...then I'm back in business a couple of hours later.

No tune, I did a manual computer reset and ran through the manual procedures for the computer to learn the new setup

I think the procedures are in battery replacement? Can't remember, but it all worked and still works 5 months later.

I am still confused as to what air flow restrictions everyone is seeing in the stock intake?? The chambers that are built into the induction pipe are nothing more than for noise reduction. Air drawn by them creates a vacuum in the chambers, but they do not reduce or restrict air flow. Looking at the two pics between whtrapta and jesse, there is no difference in the flow of air to the throttle body. (If your were to draw an arrow from the air box to the throttle body it would look the same)

I wasn't sure if the stock intake had much of any restriction. I asked a buddy of mine who does his own garage builds and so on, he suggested to give this a try, so I did. I have noticed an increase in MPG with the home fabricated piping, then i noticed a bit more with the KN drop in.

I ran tests (checked mileage with piping and without KN, then tested both together and so on) with either or to make sure I am getting some type of an increase as I didnt want to lose any MPG..it was a positive result in the end. I was going to powder coat the pipe to bling it out, but I haven't had the chance as of yet. If I had some type of negative or similar results with the new configuration, I would have never left it installed.

Whatever it is, it has worked great for me so far..use to run about 13 to 14 on the highwY, now I run 17 to 18 at this elevation, which I'm eager to see how it works at sea level. I did go TDY to Utah, with a lower elevation just by 1000 feet or so, and it caught my attention a ton, with about 15MPG in the city..easily 18 on the highway.

I can't check any power gains considering I never went to a dyno or anything, so I can only go by fuel mileage, which doesn't correlate to any power, but shows some saved gas in the end...

But as everybody mentioned, nobody bought this truck to be a prius.

This is what I did with a drop in KN air filter, has been working great for me so far! I have seen an increase in mileage, more significant than my 40 exhaust..and I like the stock OEM protection from dirt/debri and engine heat

Where did you get this pipe? and how did you bend it? I'm very interested in doing this mod for sure.

We made measurements, went to local metal shop, gave dimensions and got it within 2 days. Ordered clamps online. I can't find the measurements we wrote down on paper, I think I emailed it to myself at the time, I will try digging through emails tomorrow when I hit Hill AFB and see if I can find it on my gov laptop.

I can't find the original plans, when I have time I can take it out and do a rough estimate with a ruler, length and diameter. I do remember even after having them cut it out for us, we had to cut and reshape the pipe on our own, I wanted some room between the rubber seals and truck to allow flex and absorption from vibration...one of these days I will get it coated and engraved to bling it out a bit.

I Agree I'm not sure what air flow restrictions everyone else sees either. The ****** on the side of the box might not be the best looking intake tube but its all for NVH. Has anyone actually proven to get better mileage over the stock intake. ?

If the CAI was a real fix to increase MPG I guarantee that the auto manufactures would have a set up for it. It can give you some HP increase but its not a constant increase. Sure running at speed down the highway it can help but as soon as you slow down aad get into city type traffic it all goes bye bye, when the PCM sees the increased intake air temp it reduces the timing to stop any knock.

Exactly, no more MPG's but I guess if someone purchases it for the power then I guess it works for some
