the under coating I'm talking about is like a spray in bed liner but smooth instead of textured. with that you can not spray it on all surfaces like you can the amsoil so used as a team IMO this would be the best protection.

with it not sticking to the paint I'm not to worryed becose the paint will protect the meatle. you can see they tryed to put some on from factory also that the new didn't stick to on the black part. I would like to put the amsoil on the drive shaft and what not.

this under coating is actualy under the truck as well up under the drive shaft and all the places it can be. but the amsoil could be put on all the other spots

Thanks for the description and pictures. So this is the plan when my truck arrives. In addition to having the bed sprayed with Line X, I am also going to have them do the rear wheel wells. They are also going to do a full under coat spray of Valugard under the vehicle.

My question is, if they spray the Valuguard under the vehicle, is it necessary to also spray the Amsol HD? Can they be used together or one in place of the other?

What brand did you use for the undercoating?

Does anyone know what brand Ford uses for the undercoating?

Thanks

Great conversation and questions! Great pics Wilson. As for the question about either or, etc. If you do the Valugard then I wouldn't do the AMSOIL over top of it, just in the areas that are not sprayed with the Valugard. That being said, from the test results I have seen, the Valugard style or spray on offers another type of protection other than corrosion resistance. It may protect better against rocks flying up and hitting everything. Although it will flake off, the metal may be less likely to obtain dings from the rocks, I doubt the AMSOIL will stop those by itself. Where the AMSOIL would help in combination with the Valugard would be after the Valugard has sustained chipping or flaking damage or wear. Once that point is reached, then it would be beneficial to spray the AMSOIL over the Valugard.

However, the AMSOIL can also be used by itself. It is incredibly tough stuff to remove, it isn't going to flake or peal, it isn't going to allow rust to form on it at the edges of it's protected areas, etc. It may allow rocks to ding the metal, but from what I have seen it is very doubtful that it will chip or flake like the Valugard shown in the pics above.

I do have some more test results to post, I just need to load the pics and write the article, they are very promising results indeed.

CL,
Thanks for the info. I think I am going to have a shop Valugard the under body/frame and spray the AMSOIL HD on the bolts, leaf springs, basically whatever the valugard isn't on/any metal.

Can you spray the AMSOIL HD on the drive shaft and the diffs? Worried about the heat.

Should I strive to apply the Amsoil in a relatively dry environment?

Of course I get out of work early today, so it rained an has been foggy all day. When I looked under the truck to plan out application, I noticed moisture on the rear diff. So I figured it would be better to apply in less than 80% humidity.

Also raises the question of whether the undercarriage should be cleaned prior to application.

Is there an ideal temperature and/or humidity range to apply it?

The heat will not bother the AMSOIL MPHD, from what I have seen so far in my testing, it helps to make it better actually. As for the ideal humidity and temperature, etc. I would recommend cleaning first if you can, and in a warm environment (70* or more). When I was applying it in a climate controlled building for testing, it took just over 24 hours to cure completely at 70*. I do not have humidity numbers to go with that.

As for needing to be dry, I am honestly not sure about that, I would assume that it needs to be as dry as possible, but I also doubt that a little moisture will cause it not to cure or fail in it's coverage. I will have to test whether it disperses water like their regular metal protector (which actually dries moisture soaked items like wiring, etc).

The ideal environment for application in my opinion would be in a well ventilated garage/shop that is climate controlled (outside if the temps are right) at at least 70*, otherwise the curing process MAY take a little longer. I also recommend cleaning as much as you can to ensure proper coverage, but I doubt that this part is 100% necessary because the AMSOIL MPHD will cure around the dirt and the dirt will wind up caught in the cured protector until removed. (my opinion, not tested fact)

Hope this helps...

I suggest clay barring and waxing the truck after you use the Amsoil on the undercarriage. That stuff left a film from the fumes and the clay bar looks like amsoil. The Tuxedo Black hid it well, didn't know it was on there until I clay barred it today. It's been on there for 4 months, I'm glad it has opti coat protection. JMO
