Tracking a railcar shipment

I went by the dealership today and my sales guy gave me a print off of the vehicle tracking on the rail car thus far. # TTGX973718 Canadian National Railways . Anybody know how I can follow along on my own without calling Ford SVT or the dealership daily? Trying not to be too much of a burden. You know how it goes! Any help would be greatly appreciated.


Just did some calculations... its gone 500 miles in five days. Still another 600+ miles to go. Looks like the ETA of Oct.31 probably isn't far off. Boo.

More than likely when you call you'll have to give the vehicle's initial and then the number so either TT or GX then your six digits 973718.

Shoot, dont be worried. You spent 50K with them. Bug the hell out of them.

I have customers bug the pi$$ out of me daily over $200 jobs.

I'd call him twice a day just to make sure he stays on top of it.

My truck left Dearborn the night before last. The last known location is Oakwood, Michigan. No one is telling me they have a railcar number. I would imagine with it's final destination being Connecticut, the truck will go by rail to Newark (my brother's Raptor followed the same path last month), then it will be picked up by trailer. SVT is saying they don't have a railcar number and my dealer is saying he doesn't. Any ideas on how I can track it further?

While it's likely your vehicle will go on a train, you don't know that until Ford SVT gets a railcar number instead of a convoy number. If you get a convoy number, your truck is on a road-based vehicle hauler and you can track through the trucking company similar to the train company. I was expecting my truck to ship to Kansas City from Dearborn via train since others on the forum had taken the same route, however, my vehicle ended up going by convoy / road from Dearborn to KC.

Info on tracking a rail car for other people that have a railcar number and don't know how to track it. I tracked mine the entire time using the CSX #

There are two major rail companies.

CSX is everything east of the mississippi
UP is everything west of the mississippi

But they all start out on CSX so once they have it in their system they will follow it all the way.

So, how do you track your truck on a railcar?

First and most important. Never talk to live personnel at the railroad! Only use automated phone system. If it attempts to transfer you to a live person please hang up. The railcar information we are provided by is given as a courtesy and if we call live personnel we may lose the access and ability to track.
CSX
1. Call the CSX 1-800-235-2352
2. When prompted for location or weight, press "1" on your phone for location.
3. When prompted for the car initials, say CN (or whatever initials you have) then wait for the next prompt.
4. When prompted for the car number, say 907048 (or whatever your number is)
5. When prompted for next car say DONE.
6. That's it; enjoy your updated status report.

Union Pacific
1. Call UP at 1 800 877-5123 1 800 877-5123
2. Follow phone prompts for Trace
3. Say the railcar number complete and clearly. Example CN123456 all together
4. Listen for your update

These automated systems can be frustrating. Keep in mind they are intended for use by folks that use them daily all day long. Like I said if you are being transferred to a live person please hang up and try again.

Awesome info. I just used it with a rail car number that my dealer just called me with. The recording was tough to hear, but it said something like, "Load, ramp in New Jersey." Should I assume being in CT that my truck was unloaded at this ramp in NJ and will now be picked up by a truck? Again, great info and thanks for sharing!
