Road trip with a family of 5 over 3500 miles and 12 days. How does the Raptor hold up?

Yet guys are posting all the time on this forum that they are getting 20MPG on their raptors yet I have not seen anything higher than 17
If you drive at a speed that keeps it out of boost, you'd find your missing 3 MPG on the highway and maybe a couple more.

I did STL to SteamBoat Co with 4 adults and all our ski gear.... 2,200 miles round trip. The Raptor is my families preferred vacation car

Longest I’ve taken my 2018 is about 1300 miles round trip. It’s a comfy ride and will handle any terrain/weather. This was a nasty stretch thru Quebec.

Just did an 1800 mile trip in a rental Hyundai Venue POS.

I don’t know why ppl buy this crap. Lots of noise, built super cheap. What did I really expect?

I got 46mpg but it comes at a cost.

One thing we don’t mention is that other drivers usually give you room and respect? compared to driving a little vehicle. Lots of cut offs, tailing etc.

Doesn’t happen as much in the Raptor.

I can get 20mpg in mine, but I have to be going roughly 55mph on a flat road with no headwind.

My best stretch in the Raptor so far as been 18.5mpg (going about 72-73mph on a flat road), which I've found is actually 17.6mpg -- Raptor reads 5% too optimistic in the displayed mpg.

I did a test with my current tank of gas over the last two weeks to see if I could squeeze out 18 in my Gen 3. I'm not sure why. I really don't care, it's not a daily driver. So I did the test. Super scientific: Easy on the acceleration. Start with regular mode then activate Sport Steering and Quiet exhaust. Foot off the throttle on the downhills (I live in hill country).

I almost had it. I was sitting close at 17.8 over about 100 miles give or take.

Then my wife happened... I had my wisdom teeth pulled the day spring break started. So I'm drugged up, in pain, and can't drive.

Wife: Hey, the girls and their friends want me to take them to six flags. I'm just dropping them off. They really want to take the truck. Can I?

Sure...

I'm now sitting at 14.5.

One of the main reasons I enjoy road trips in the raptor! People rarely ever cut me off and slow drivers move out of the way more often. Just makes the drive a lot more relaxing.

I averaged 17mpg until my return through Nashville at which point for some reason my mileage dipped hard and I ended my trip with a total average of 16.5mpg.

Remember our trucks have a 36 gallon tank.

In normal driving I get about 13mpg.
