Okay let me start by saying, i bought this truck knowing it had front end issues, This was probably the cheapest clean title second gen with under 200k miles, it clocked 99k miles on the drive home. Its a 2017 fully loaded minus carbon package, one owner Texas truck with phenominal service records and a spotless Carfax. The owner was having front end grinding noise but was moving out of country next day and needed to sell it, so i sold my 2001 6.0 PowerStroke and bit the bullet on my dream truck, the raptor. Now, here is the problem. At any speed over 10mph the front diff is howling, almost grinding. It does it in 2wd, 4wd, 4hi, 4lo, 4a. The noise gets worse when turning at speed. Ive read for hours about the IWE issues and i didn't think that was my issue, but for the sake of trying it, i replaced the fitting above the brake booster with an OEM MotorCraft part. This changed nothing... anyone got an idea on things I can test or things it my be? Im taking it into a 4WD shop next week for diagnosis but will most likely fix it myself. Thanks in advance

It’s definitely not IWE like you suspected. if the check valve were failing and loosing vacuum, it wouldn’t be grinding in 4wd.

Yeah that’s exactly what I was thinking. Now I’m starting to wonder if it’s the hubs themself have failed or if the bearings in the diff are no good

I'm here for entertainment purposes only. I hope its just a change of diff fluid

I had to do the same on my BMWs.

I have the same exact issue with a 2021 i bought used from a dealer with 4,000 miles on it. Took it to another dealer for fixing it. They ordered a new differential and it came today after 3 weeks. They will fix it next week. If it works i will let you know. Strange thing is they did not take the front diff apart before ordering anything. They call me today to say parts came in but they need to take mine apart to see what is wrong. Seems backwards to me, what if the diff is not the problem.

Welcome to FRF. Please post pictures of said prius with front end issues.

It's hard to give you some help without a sound clip or video of the noise. Could be a differential or half shaft. Wheels could be grinding on suspension parts. Could be an number of things. We need more information...
