Gen2 Trade in Value?

I've never sold a Raptor but I did sell my 2013 Sierra recently. It was clean. I just got KBB trade in value and looked at comp trucks sold by dealers near me. KBB showed my old truck worth $12k-$14k. Dealers new me had comp trucks at around $22k. I listed for $18k and sold it in two days.

I agree with the others to sell it yourself. My thought is sell it at a fair price and it will move quickly. Especailly right now.

I usually go out of state to get vehicles and haggle with them over the difference in price of the new vehicle and trade-in. I don’t put a specific number on the trade unless they ask me. I’ll use their local zip code to look up the value in their area for the vehicle that I’m trading.

Cars.com is a great place to use. Used to be free as well. Not sure if it is anymore? A lot of dealers may buy it from you private as well.

What I did on my last gen 2 was once they made the trade offer, I told them that sounded fine, that I would go home and put all the stock parts back on and bring it back in a day or two. He responded saying his offer included the aftermarket parts. I told him the offer he made was for a stock raptor judging by the price, and that the added parts aren't free. We ended up getting $4k more than the initial amount to leave the truck as is. I didn't have the stock parts at home, but I figured I would play that game to see if it would work and it did. I tried to play their game and it worked out for me. I know several dealers do not want a modified truck so that game won't always work well for sure. Just a thought.

Hmm.. interesting as that is how I have done all of my vehicle transactions and came out ahead each time. I negotiated a “sale” price on my vehicle with buyer, then we met at dealer to do a “trade” in. That person bought through the dealer at that price. All I paid tax on was the difference of that sales value to the new vehicle value. It has to be a new vehicle, not a used vehicle. It’s definitely how I have been able to flip vehicles upward and get into nicer things faster.
I’ve done this twice, once as the buyer/trader and once as the secondary buyer. If it’s a good deal for the seller it can help it be a good deal for the buyer.

But why? They don't have to sell you a vehicle if they think someone else will pay more for it. How many Raptors have you bought with this method...Gen 3s are still over MSRP in many parts of the country...

OP you might get more going private party especially with those mods, but you have to factor in the headaches of the sale vs. just trading it in. Does the dealer know you have a tune and frame cut bumpers?

Or convert mostly back to stock and sell parts to make up some of that missing $5K. I doubt the dealer is giving you extra trade in for rims, bump stops, light bar, deavers, etc.
I bought 2 Raptors like this, a 2018 purchased in Jan of 2018 & a 2020 purchased in October of 2020

The ‘18 I wound up getting for $5k off sticker, & they threw in a tonneau worth about $500 + $1000 credit toward a 100k mile extended warranty that wound up costing me an extra $700 or so

I put $2k + in mods on that truck & 42k miles until it was totaled in Late oct 2020 when a distracted driver blew red light & broadsided me

Including the mods & the tax/title/reg I MADE $2200 in the insurance payout!!! They gave me nearly $68k free & clear think was paid off

My 2020 was a tougher negotiation as that was right when the chip shortage/supply chain stuff was really starting to heat up, that one I got for $500 off sticker + a tonneau cover-

As you can see from my insurance payout- it really pays to be prudent & work the best deal possible even tho these things hold their value great.

I also purchased 3 GM trucks same way….when I bought the 2018 Raptor I had another deal going for a 2019 GMC Sierra Denali 6.2, I think I still have the offer letter somewhere- $12,700 off sticker….

You'll always get more if you sell on your own. I just traded in my 2017, with 13k miles. I took most of my parts off, which they won't care about. I left on the Pedal commander, JLT catch can, turbo smart BOV, avs window visors, AWE 2FG.

Got $54k on the trade, initially they offered $49k. They just listed/sold it for $64k. Two days and it was gone!

I don't know that you have to be that tricky with it. The important thing is to go into the negotiation with options and all the details you can. Know what your trade in is worth, know how much you want to put down and what interest rate you can get. Know what sort of options and extended warranty you might want. Negotiate these things as separate items, not as a bundle. Decide on the price of the vehicle your buying first, don't let them give you some joint number, or worse, a monthly fee.
