Great choice! I researched all the retractable covers and reached the same conclusion. The American Roll Cover is the best. Very happy with mine.

Glad you are having good luck with yours. It's built pretty damn beefy, I'm just hoping it stands the test of time.

I thought the Diamondbacks were expensive. Do these things ever go on sale?

I believe the margins are very low on these covers. Real truck would offer 5% if I had bought all of the Yakima accessories, but with that small of a discount I'd rather my Line-X deal make the profit and let them stand by their install.

Great review. I had the Retrax 80378 installed on my '21 37. I like the electric open/close function. After a couple of months, a large gap developed where it rolls into the canister and Retrax sent a replacement. Not a week after the replacement the same gap appeared again. They ended up sending me locking clips that had to be installed in the drum. If I had to do it all over again, I'd have gone with the American Roll Cover.View attachment 372204View attachment 372205

Nice Rig! I admittedly was set on this exact setup when first researching. I thought, why the hell wouldn't everyone want electric other than where a dead battery is a concern. However after talking to 15+ truck accessory shop they all said the same thing. It's not if they will have problems, but when.

Granted Retrax seems to stand by their product and will ship out parts to fix, I hated the idea of ever having to mess with it once it's installed. Plus, I really needed to count on the bed cover not being easily broken into or have things get soaked.

Sorry to hear you're having issues man, the one thing Retrax might be willing to do is switch it out for the Manual, ProXR. If installed right those shouldn't have the issue you're experiencing.

Thanks man, your setup/posts actually first introduced me to world of Yakima stuff. So thank ya!
Nice! I have a garage full of Yakima racks. They aren’t cheap but they fit any brand of car so you can keep them a long time.

Install is straight forward so can’t see spending $2k on the cover and then another few hundred on the installer. Plus it’ll get me familiar with how it’s put together and parts just in case I do run into an issue. I’d rather fix myself and save the time and headaches of going to an installer for “warranty work”. I’m sure they love that.

I do plenty of work on the 79' Broncos I rebuild. To pay $90, for someone to install a $3,000 cover was more than worth it to me, but to each their own. They install these a lot, and they aren't as easy as one would think to install. If any warranty work was ever needed to be done, they would honor their work.

However the whole point of buying this cover, was that warranty work wouldn't be needed like it would be if you bought a Retrax. If you installed it correctly the first time, why would you need to find fixes? I think your point highlights why I brought it folks who install these daily. Plus if I scratched this nice cover I'm sure I'd be pretty bummed with myself. Cheers!

You bought a $90k truck that shouldn’t need fixes either. I’ve bought plenty of high quality parts that needed some adjustment so it’s better off to know how it’s installed for me. No matter how many installs someone does there is always a chance for an issue and also a chance for that installer to damage your vehicle. You do you.
