Howdy y'all,

I spent some time researching bed covers in depth, and ultimately landed on the American Roll Cover by Truck Covers USA. I've never had a cover on my past trucks, so this was something a bit new to me. I was pretty surprised at how many damn options there are and that 95% are made by the same parent company.

While I made a large spreadsheet w the pros and cons, I wanted to make a quick write up showing the cover installed and the reasons I went with this cover. I also would want to make a big recommendation on anyone that does indeed to purchase this cover.

Pros:
-Toughest Retractable Bed cover on the market. I eventually settled between the RetraxProXR and this cover. This cover is simply higher quality in components and looks. I went with the HD Yakima Rails, where Yakima says this cover is the only cover that can truly handle their max weight. I realize there are heavier duty bed covers out there like the Diamond Back and Renegade, but those bed covers simply wouldn't work with how I use my truck. Plus, those covers aren't as low pro as this setup is, which I personally wanted to retain.

-Hardest Retractable Cover to Break into, by far!

-Best Looking Cover: The smaller, retractable metal pieces look so much cleaner than the wider, Retrax style pieces.

-Fastest cover to get into and be fully open in seconds. The biggest issue I had w most retractable covers, is that they require you to come to the side of the truck to open. Even worse, you then have to walk back to that side to close. This things opens quick, has a beautifully made strap that allows me to close the bed cover as quickly as I opened it. From a convenience stand point, there is no better cover to open quick, load or unload your stuff, and have it closed/locked.

-Smallest retractable canister taking up only 8x8 inches in the bed.

-Most Weather Resistant Retractable Cover: 4 water tubes and and a tight seat keeps water out as best as a cover can.

**Biggest Recommendation I Can Make**

-Whatever you do, order the matte finish over the semi gloss! The semi gloss is too reflective and just looks weird, I would have been really disappointed if I took their rec and went with the semi-gloss over the Matte.

Went to look at some Yakima gear yesterday. It's super cool how modular everything is, I really would like to get the HD Overhaul and Roam Tent setup.

The Yakima Jetstream bars are best for everyday use to connect your bike, cargo basket, etc. Where I find the Yakima Overhaul beneficial is for hauling paddle boards or having the tent on top.

Great review. I had the Retrax 80378 installed on my '21 37. I like the electric open/close function. After a couple of months, a large gap developed where it rolls into the canister and Retrax sent a replacement. Not a week after the replacement the same gap appeared again. They ended up sending me locking clips that had to be installed in the drum. If I had to do it all over again, I'd have gone with the American Roll Cover.20220918_180136.jpg20220918_180146.jpg

You'd probably get a better price by sending a message to the realtruck reps here on FRF. They gave me a great price on the Bakflip I had on my '18.
