I have been told that the half tie rod kit doesn't affect warranty whereas the whole kit can. I am trying to keep some form of warranty since its still a relatively new truck. RPG has stated that this is the case on the bronco's, so it makes sense that it would be the same case for the Gen 3's.

The half kit would just be a fashion piece… it wouldn’t make the tie rod as a whole stronger as it would still be utilizing the inner portion. If you’re wanting function, get the file tie rod kit. Then the whole tie rod would be much stronger and robust.
Not really, the tie rod end can limit pivot angles and overall suspension droop. The half tie rod allows the wheel to articulate more if you have other mods like aftermarket UCA’s or Mid travel kits.

Yeah I agree with that. To each their own i guess. Everyone has a different setup for different reasons. If the half kit allows the warranty to remain intact, that’s a no brained then. I personally wouldn’t want only part of the tie rod to be weaker than itself. It I also get wanting a $75 OEM part to break rather than the steering rack lol

When I found out aftermarket tie rods needed to be serviced every 12-18 months I said no thanks I don’t have time for that many alignments.

Could you elaborate on that a little more? Is this something I could eyeball accurately? I was under the impression you needed fancy equipment, although I don know there are many offroad shops that do alignment without special equipment but have very experienced mechanics.

Could you do a combination of eyeball and trial and error? You probably could but I wouldn’t recommend that.

I personally use a kit from quick trick. It works pretty well, but I’m sure there are other kits that would work too. You could probably build your own kit as well.

Note: turn plates from most companies have a weight rating a little less than I would expect the front corner weights are on any of the gens. I actually use poly/nylon/whatever cutting boards, 2 boards per side. I usually grease the joint between them with lubricating oil, thinking about trying grease this time though. They work pretty well.

Thanks for the insight fellas! I was thinking the full kit was better, until I saw that "1/2 is better" and cheaper. Really appreciate you guys on this forum!

I'm just going to keep a couple spare tie rods in the truck for off roading. Would rather have a rather easy and cheap repair on the trail than a steering rack go out leaving you stranded.
