3 years, 11 months, and 46,132 miles I finally get Cam Phaser problem

I had the software update in December 2021 per the Ford requirement. My truck never had the Cam Phaser issue until a month or so ago. I had it happen once. then 2-3 weeks later it started to do it on every cold start up.

now, it is doing very hard starts in the morning with the noise.

Yay me.

Woah. I had the phasers replaced after rattling for 30k miles, never had extended cranking time like that. I wonder if you have something else going on too?

Mine sounded like that. I added Lucas oil additive and it helped a lot. (Not gone on cold starts but mid day is quite)
I change the plugs. I thought my fuel was leaking down, but changing the plugs make a difference on the extended cranking.

trying to get into a dealer for the fix. right now on line they say end of September before I can get in. hoping to call and talk to someone.

also. my understanding is they have to teardown most of the motor. going to have them put new plugs back in

Plugs took me about 20 minutes to change.

They pull the body off the frame in order to get to the front of the engine….the guy is Ford master mechanic and covers about everything.
