Disable Voltage Regulating

Is it possible to disable the voltage regulating of the Gen 2 so that the alternator will charge at a constant 14V? Is this as simple as pulling a fuse / disconnecting a wire? Will it throw a code?

If I was to install a HO alternator, how would I defeat this?

@FordTechOne Not to highjack this thread but just out of curiosity is it normal to see voltage drop to 12.5v on the dash display at times with this voltage regulator system.

I’ve done a ripple test and battery test. I’ve noted that it seems like on occasion the IC is up to about .5v off what the battery/ripple tester showed.

WHY??

Beyond the life expectancy being lower on components, SAFETY !!
How are you going to keep from damaging everything electrical in the truck?
Even antique old stuff has to be kept from overcharging and too much voltage to keep from frying, cooking, burning, or EXPLODING.
Cannot imagine the sensitive systems in a new truck getting overcharged.
All the controls, sensors, relays, switches, COMPUTERS.

Just sounds like a DANGEROUS thing to try.

What would you do when things do go bad?
Dealer going to be able to scan and find what fuse, circuit breaker, fuse-able link or weak spot took a hit?
Would not be surprised if any service garage would tell you they do not even want to look at it if they found out that had been done to it.

Maybe I am missing something here, but doesn't seem like anything I would have interest in.

This is highly discussed in the stereo world. I'm running a Mechman370/Big3/112ah Headway Lithium bank. I believe the smart charge is also hurting me. I believe the next step is for me is to get a voltage regulator so I can charge at 14.8 at all times. I need to do more research...good luck in your search.

I believe I read if you disable the smart charge at the negative terminal you will put the system in limp mode. There is no battery light however.

Why? The system is designed to maintain the battery charge level over all conditions through bilateral communication with the regulator. Overcharging degrades the life of the battery and alternator.
Car audio. Amplifiers are rated at 14v and alternators usually charge at 14v when not being restricted. I also have more than 1 battery in my truck to support said system and I can't get a chaging voltage higher than 12.5v.

Lol What?

14v is normal operating condition for 12v comonents. Nothing dangerous here.

I would think there is something wrong with your alternator. I have 3 batteries connected in my boat for a 36 volt system and when charging they get 13.5 to 13.7 volts from the charger. Maybe have someone rev the engine while checking the voltage on your battery.

I have voltmeters on my amp that were watched while reving, never saw higher than 12.5 / 12.7v
What amps you going to be running or running?
Incriminator IX 4.1 and 12.4

I have 2 XS power XP 3000 batteries in the bed.
