Great news! Would it be safe to say that Ford has identified the root cause and the clunking noise 100% related to the Fox Shocks or have there been cases where the front driveshaft is the cause as displayed in the video on Page 5 of this thead? Hopefully this is all related to the Fox Shocks.

It would be interesting if the clunk/rattle was resolved after the installation of Fox Race Series once they are available for Gen3.

There is no verified fix for the clunk/rattle on the Gen3 or Gen2. You either clunk/rattle or you don't.

Service bulletin was released today.

SSM 50972 2021-2022 F-150 Raptor - Clunk/Thump/Rattle Noise From The Front And/Or Rear When Going Over Bumps - Built On Or Before 16-Jun-2022
Some 2021-2022 F-150 Raptor vehicles built on or before 16-Jun-2022 may experience a clunk, thump, and/or rattle noise from the front and /or rear when going over bumps. This may be due to a concern with the shock absorbers. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Sections 100-04 and 204-00 to perform the appropriate noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) diagnosis and inspections. If diagnosis leads to a shock absorber, replace only the affected shock absorber(s). Refer to WSM, Sections 204-01B (front) and/or 204-02 (rear).
Thank you! Any idea how they diagnose this? The 3 separate times I brought my Raptor in for this I was told that it was normal.

Good news would be if Fox/Ford issued a recall and stated the exact cause/origin and provided a solution that works reliably.

This is not "good" news in my opinion because plenty of shocks were already replaced chasing a solution and the clunk persists, and remember this happened on Gen2 as well with no solution that worked to my knowledge or experience (I lemoned my old '19 Live Valve clunker and found a used replacement non clunker/rattler). I took my replacement out for a test drive and immediately aimed for the rough road, train tracks, and man hole covers to listen for the clunk/rattle.

The service bulletin references vehicles built before June 16, 2022 (gen2 had it too) so was a fix put in place on the factory line (a part or a process) on that date and what is the fix? If any clunk/rattlers built after that date post here about the noise that would be helpful.

If/When Fox releases Race Series shocks for the Gen3 and the clunk/rattle is resolved after install that would be interesting.
Recalls are generally for safety issues, which this is not. It would be a waste of everyone’s time to bring every vehicle to the dealer for an issue their truck doesn’t exhibit; not all of the shocks have the noise concern.

The service bulletin is pretty clear in what the repair direction is, and they provide a build date cutoff. Meaning if a truck exhibits the symptom described and was built before the build date cutoff, start NVH diagnosis at the shocks. If the noise is coming from a shock, replace it. The change that was made in production will be the same change applied to the new service parts; previous shock replacements are irrelevant.

This issue isolated to Gen 3 truck; it has nothing to do with Gen 2. If you had a clunk of a Gen 2 you had something else going on, there were no common shock issues. Was your truck stock?

Please do not abuse the service information I provide, I do not post it to be used as ammunition against any party. It is not customer facing, meaning only dealers and those subscribed can access it. I do not expect anyone to slap this in the face of a dealer and make demands. My intent is to educate those with the concern who are within the build date range that the issue was isolated to the shocks (as many already suspected) and the dealer now has diagnostic direction to replace the affected shock(s) with the new service parts.

Yes, a basic set of chassis ears on the suspect shock will isolate the noise. Before this bulletin was published, dealers could only compare with like units. If other units had the same noise, they could only deem it as normal until further diagnostic direction was provided.

I just dropped mine off at the dealer. Without trying to be too pushy, I told them I had heard that a fix might have been released by Ford. The service advisor seemed to be unaware of any resolution at this point and said that it would pull up by VIN if there was a bulletin available. We shall see.

**2 hours after dropping mine off, I got a call saying they can’t duplicate and there is no bulletin available. I’m waiting to hear from the service manager.

precisely why I am waiting until it gets colder out. for whatever reason when it is warm it is not nearly as bad. but my service manager did see the bulletin in the system.
