2019 Raptor using 1 qt oil every 1000 miles; leaking cylinders

UPDATE:

First, I did all oil changes ahead of schedule. The change before last was when the first shortage showed up, and that was less than 5000 miles. They did the reprogramming then, but that didn't help as stated above. I noticed it was low 2000 miles after that oil change and took it in and now here we are.

I talked to the dealership. Ford has told them to re-ring the cylinders and rebuild it. They say it will take a week to get parts and do the work. We'll see about that. I sure hope that's the right thing to do.

I'm also worried about damage in other parts of the engine that may not show up right away. Also, what's going to happen in the cats since about 5-6 quarts of oil went through the exhaust?

Ford doesn’t re-ring engines under warranty, sounds like the dealer may have miscommunicated what the actual repair is. If only the bottom end is damaged, they would order a short block. However, being that low on oil I would suspect that the cam journals are damaged. I would highly recommend that the dealer pull the cam caps and inspect the journals before going any further. If the cam journals are scored, they should be ordering a short block and 2 heads or a long block, depending on cost cap results and availability.

like Ford Tech said ,They need to pull the cam caps and look if there is any evidence of metal going through . If the they are good on each side , a new short block would be a good resolve. If there is evidence heads and turbos need to be replaced . My 2019 build of 2/19 does not have any oil loss according to dipstick . I check once a week and only get about 5 drips out of my catch can a week . I have been using Motul Xcess 8100 oil . My oil pressure at idle is 32 psi . On the guage cluster I have Oil Temp and Oil Pressure displayed most times . When i start laying into the boost i make sure the guage swings up to 70+ psi before putting my foot all the way down.

UPDATE:

The dealership now tells me they are going to "replace the engine." I'm not sure exactly what that means. They claim it will be done by the end of this week. I can't fathom how they could possibly get the "engine" that fast and put it back together. We'll see.

Another UPDATE:

I went to the dealership today to talk face-to-face. Ford wants them to replace the block, BUT, they don't have any to give them for many months, so they are going to REBUILD the block (new bearings, rings, cylinders (?), etc.)

Doesn't that give you a warm fuzzy? Hopefully it works out okay.

I’d ask for a bit more detail on this. Do you have a root cause, or did they just give up troubleshooting for cost?

If they have root cause and can fix it with the repair proposed, you’ll be covered by warranty. I’d be sure that anything even remotely, potentially compromised by the problem was raised as a concern on your service ticket. Just in case.

All I know is this: when they originally took it apart to replace the valve seals (their original intent) they discovered that two of the cylinders "didn't have compression." (Seems funny, as the engine seemed to be running fine with plenty of power). So Ford then told them to "rebuild the block." (Quotes are what the dealer said).

I have questions about this approach. If the cylinders don't have compression, is it because the rings are bad or because the cylinder isn't sized right? And if you are going to "rebuild the block" shouldn't you resurface the cylinders??

I have plenty of questions, but I'm not a mechanic and don't know exactly the questions I should ask--I have not quite enough knowledge of these things to even be dangerous :)

They claim I will have a warranty after the repair, and "any problems that arise should show up in the warranty period."

Like I said, I don't have a warm fuzzy on this.

Never heard of Ford rebuilding an engine under warranty. It sounds like they’re replacing the short block and either reusing or replacing the heads.
