I can tell you that the Raptor will crawl better than you’d think, BUT it’s too damn big for most trails that the Jeep could walk over, keeping the Jeep and doing the axle swap with supporting mods would be the better route if you’re a crawler, if you travel on easy-moderate trails that aren’t too narrow than you can entertain the Raptor option. I work in the auto repair sector and both vehicles are prone to mechanical issues in some form or another, so pick your poison
Yeah I mean I’m usually running stuff in Moab like hells revenge or black bear pass in telluride - so idk how a larger truck would hold up on that - although I’ve seen people do it in f250 or ram 1500s (not easily tho) - but it seems like if I want to enjoy some dunes the raptor is the way to go?

There are several dealers offering discount and if the OP is serious about the swap upgrading to the 392 plus other goodies from factory makes more sense.
Comparison to a Raptor …I don’t see it.
Typically the dealers I talk to will just order it from the factory and don’t really give incentives - if it’s on the lot already it’s typically a ripoff

I’ve taken mine on some tight trails and it hasn’t disappointed me, the 4lo worked fine and the rear locker did come in handy, but besides the sheer size the wheel base and turning radius is very limiting and I did pick up some pinstripes that otherwise wouldn’t have happened in a smaller vehicle, I spent 7hrs this past weekend with a DA and cutting polish to clean up the paint.

There are PLENTY of shops out there doing Wrangler V8 swaps & have been for decades, there’s also no shortage of kits from cheap to all the bells & whistles to get it done in your home garage too should you feel
Inclined.

An LS1 & a Jeep Wrangler are like PB&J (yeah yeah I know mopar dodge etc but the LS crate motors are what has been going into wranglers for years)

If you want a serious off-roader that you can put away wet & dirty & worry bout @ a later time- modded jeep, if you want a “do anything” vehicle that has great resale, is relatively fast on & off road, has tons of room/practicality, & is more than capable in most offroad situations get the Raptor.

A V8 swapped Jeep is pretty awesome tho- and while the wrangler 392 is cool, doesn’t come w/ a stickshift does it? ;-)

Yup I’ve been around Jeeps for awhile and I’m well aware. A 392 will be more than 99.9% of people will do with a Jeep and do it under warranty at a local dealership.

If you want to do serious rock crawling then obviously you don’t start with the most expensive model.

As far as the manual vs auto debate id pick an auto any day of the week. I’ve had manual cars and they do nothing for me.

Alright so I’m considering upgrading my wrangler with dynatrac d60/80 combo + swapping to a V8 along with all the suspension, steering, drivetrain, and other modifications required to properly run these upgrades. I understand that a jeep and a raptor f150 fulfill different roles… but how much rock crawling / off-roading can you really do with a raptor compared to a jeep? I get that it shreds dunes with its independent front suspension… but that twin turbo v6 really scares me - i feel like it wouldn’t be as reliable as a naturally aspirated engine? But what makes me trend towards the raptor is that it is much safer on the highway due to its independent front suspension… and it’s size and construction make it much safer for passengers. Also a few pictures of some different off-road builds would be appreciated!
You haven't been on many jeep trails , have you? :)

There is no f'n way a full size truck, let alone a Raptor would ever fit on most of the trails a jeep or 4R could.

You want an auto in a V8 jeep for rock crawling? Huh?

I dont crawl over rocks with my Jeep but if I did it would be in an automatic.
It can climb over parking lot blocks just fine.
