Good morning all,

First of all, my apologies for having disappeared from the forum these past few weeks. I picked the truck up on 4/11, drove it for a couple of days and then had two back to back trips again. Just got back and will share pictures and a detailed write-up this weekend.

But hoping y'all can help me with a quick question in the meantime.

I'm getting the Retrax Pro XR installed this evening. The website recommends a gate gasket seal to help keep dirt/dust out of the bed. See link below.

The installer said it doesn't really make a difference and suggested I save the $25 by not getting the gasket seal.

While I appreciate their candor, I'm wondering if I should still get it even if it makes a slight difference / doesn't have any cons. I won't be using the bed for tools/work equipment, etc. and just for grocery store runs, recycling drop off (we don't have pick up), and luggage storage on road trips. And would like the bed to stay as clean as possible.

Thank you for your thoughts, and I hope you're all enjoying your trucks, whether Gen 3 or other.

If you're speaking of the seal that is installed at the tailgate, I recommend it, but it needs to be installed carefully to be effective. My Bakflip is 99% water and dustproof with the exception of this area. What's another $25 on top of $1000+?

Yes, it's at the tailgate. And agreed, that's how I feel as well. Will get it installed.

If you really want to keep it clean check out the bed rug. It will keep it very clean and it is durable.

I installed my retrax and then got the gasket seal after my first road trip. it makes a world of difference! The 2000 mile trip without it had some rain and snow and when I got back home the interior of the bed near the tailgate was flecked with muddy water from the trip. I installed the gasket myself (takes about 15 minutes, and is pretty dang easy). Last trip I did, same place, same conditions with the gasket, virtually nothing made it into the bed, so money well spent.

Thanks for your thoughts, everyone. Got the Retrax Pro XR installed yesterday, along with the gate gasket seal.
