I had the exact same issue happen to me last week. I have driven my route numerous times once with a box trailer and never did the engine temp get high enough to post the degrees in numbers. As long as I stayed off of the boost it was like normal but with extended boost I would get into the mid 230's After getting back home I had the local dealer look at it they couldn't replicate the problem after trying for two days. The fluid was fine and NO codes had even been thrown plus the shudders where working. When I got it back I tried on an extremely winding day 40+mph head wind and within about 7 miles at 75mph with boost I got the 230+ numbers. The dealer then sent an email up the chain. Ford came back and said since no codes where thrown this is completely normal. The degrees in numbers where just to let the driver know it was getting on the high side of warm. My truck also had the cam phasers replace back in Sept 2021 and this was the first major trip since the work had been performed. The local dealer surmised that there was a possible flash up date to the ecm that makes it more prevalent to display the degrees in numbers above the bar graph now? whatever! I still have a hard time believing this is normal since I have taken this trip so many times and never had this happen and now I do. I have decided to upgrade the intercooler and will also either remove the shutters , keep the motor attached to keep from throwing a cel, or I have even thought about just drilling large holes in the louvers to allow some air flow even when closed and with the larger more efficient IC should keep my hot compressed gas cooler. I'm wondering why no one else has thought about just drill holes in the louvers instead of the normal leave on or totally remove options in all the other posts? My Raptor is a 2017 with 65K totally stock, until this up coming weekend!

I disabled my shutters open and it didn’t fix it. Good luck I hope you figure it out. My local shop found a code for shutters put couldn’t replicate. My local dealer is incompetent. So, no way to really fix it.

If it only occurred after you had engine work done I’d suspect the thermostat is causing it. For some reason there have been instances where the thermostats seem to stick after being exposed to open air. I would try replacing the thermostat and see if it makes any difference.

Ok I'll see if I can get it in and have the thermostat replaced I have to take the same trip next weekend. My local shop is good but I still don't like the fact that Ford just says "nothing to see here move on!" With a new thermostat and aftermarket stock location Garrett IC surely this will fix it. I will keep everyone posted. MDD with the shutters disabled open where you still running the oem IC?

Well I replaced the IC with a Garrett IC and a turbo smart BOV, figure since I'm in there might as well upgrade it in case down the road I do a tune. The replacement went without too many hiccups. I did remove the top and bottom louver on the shutter system on the truck for the IC. This way the shutter motor is still able to operate. I did have to put in a limiter device for the motor to know when it was fully open. I just drilled a hole in the side of the plastic housing and screwed in a large headed machine screw. I did have to trim an additional half inch after I removed the first half of the shudder shroud. Without doing this the top rubber brackets wouldn't line up with factory mounting holes. Everything works great however, I still got engine temps up to 230-34 with extended 10psi boost after only about 15 min of driving on a slight incline (I live in eastern South Dakota, so I do mean SLIGHT) at about 80 mph. So these improvement didn't effect my temperatures. But still glad for the upgrades! Tuesday the dealership will be installing a new thermostat and vacuum filling the coolant. I will be taking a trip on Wed and then on Thursday another 600 mile trip I will post how that all goes.

Ok latest update I took the truck out for a two hour trip the (the 600 mile trip is tomorrow) but I had 40 to 60 MPH head winds on the way back and was able to average 70+ mph and my boost was almost always between 5 and 7? My temperature graph stayed where it usually has been for the past year and the temp numbers never displayed!!!! So, I would have to say the new thermostat did the trick. Still glad I upgraded the IC/BOV removed to louvers on the shutter system and removed the foam engine cover thou.

I found this thread as I just had the same issue this weekend. 2018, pulling about 6,500 lbs. I would get 225 - 238 temps, then the numbers would disappear. Outside temperatures 45F - 60F. Bar always stays about in the middle. I've pulled this trailer several times before and never seen the temp numbers. I also had the cam phasers replaced, but that may be coincidence. I couldn't hear the fans, but maybe they run quiet? Or that may be my issue. Unlike my 2004 Diesel Excursion, the fans run super loud when loaded.

I called the dealer, and they said they have never heard of temp numbers appearing but are checking into it.

There have been more than a few instances where the thermostat sticks after a repair in which it was exposed to open air, such as during replacement of the phasers. I would suspect that to be the cause of the increase in temperatures that you’re seeing.
