The Last couple years have been bad for me meeting up with Jake No Shoulders. Normally I may see one or two a year. We say hi and go about or business. The last couple of years I have had "Close Encounters" and l am rapidly using up what's left of my nine lives.
On this day's encounter Freddie, a retired Air Force PJ and I were doing a little 4xFoot/Raptoring in a Canyon on the AZ side of Lake Mead. We had hiked down to a cove and Freddie was going to go for a little swim. Note-Jake is also a really good swimmer. I'm near Freddie when all of a sudden, I hear him Scream like a little Biotch...Turns out Freddie had taken his socks and shoes off, put one foot in the water and suddenly movement catches his eye. The movement is Jake in Full Attack Mode. No "Rattle" no warning, nada. Just F U this is my swimming hole. I run to help Freddie as he is crab crawling backwards on all fours. Unfortunately, my "Jake Eradication Tool" is in my pack, 200yds in the opposite direction. We had a short discussion with Jake and we all lived happily ever after... Had we been bitten, we were a good 3hrs from any Hospital. A perfect example of why my wife bought me an In-Reach Resue Transponder.

Did I mention Jake was a BMFS! at least 6 foot, but more like 22 feet when he was coming at me!!
