Engine/Turbos blown under 1100 miles

Yeesh the comments are a little rough today, I was not expecting that tbh. Anyway to the claims of racing. We were not racing. We we’re in a flat parking lot and we’re testing 0-60s. I wasn’t doing anything the truck shouldn’t have been able to handle. It was a straight line and between shifts it failed. There were also absolutely no mods whatsoever.

Maybe I shifted too late, I thought the shifting on these gen 3s was supposed to be faster, but I didn’t redline it and shift. I shifted right when that number hit 6. Regardless you’d think that wouldn’t happen.

Again I was absolutely not racing. I was doing a 0-60 test, and if these trucks aren’t strong enough to handle that then why are they pushing $100k? What is Baja mode for? It a f**king raptor shouldn’t it have been able to handle the shift…

Thanks for the positive comments or the suggestions as to what may have gone wrong though!

P.S. I have a friend of a friend who works building Ford Performance engines. I asked him about engine break in and he said, “you should be able to drive that thing like you stole it, thats why we say ford built tough”. Just thought that was funny coming from a guy who actually makes these things.

Truck requires a break-in period. Take it easy for the first 1k miles. This might bite you depending how far the dealership and Ford want to take it.

Sorry to hear this. I don’t care if you were testing 1/4 times. On a stock truck you should be able to test it all. We see the guys at TFL do all these tests with every truck/suv they get. Highly doubt any company would void a warranty claim for parts failure in these cases. Now if you were trying to test run Baja or doing laps at Laguna Seca I would expect warranty claim denied.

It doesn't say anything about doing brake torques so maybe there is hope for being repaired. Either way his dad is going to ground him.

Yea that’s fair, and I did drive it very softly for the first 1000 miles. This was the first “hard” test I did and after the 1000 mile mark. Maybe it needed more time?

Not sure why you think my dad would be upset? He had nothing to do with the truck purchase. Just because I’m younger doesn’t mean I didn’t buy this truck with self made cash… not sure why this is so hard for some to understand lol.

Not likely. Sounds more like there was a factory defect, and when you ran it hard the issue was exposed. I agree with @jamanrr it almost sounds like a charge air cooler hose is blowing off under boost; that will cause a sudden loss and power and a hissing noise. The engine will also over fuel due to the loss of airflow, which will result in white smoke. I don’t think you’ll have any warranty issues being that the truck is stock and (assuming) shows no signs of abuse. Keep us posted on how things go.

I'm overworked and I'm just having some fun. I didn't mean to offend you and I hope you have no warranty issues.

Think about what you said, you shifted at 6k. In auto mode, the shift is complete by 6k. Ford knows there is little to no load on the engine in the brief moment when it changes gears. I bet you’re engine 7-8k when you hit the shifter. Ask the tech weather they cover it or not.
