It's definitely not better than the Powerwagon or Wrangler at crawling. I found myself on a section on the King of Hammers course where the TRX really showed its width. At speed though, I was very surprised at how well it worked.

Can't go wrong with the Raptor or TRX at the end of the day. They're both more capable than a stock vehicle should be.

Just hard to justify a Raptor to me when the interiors are a wash, exterior is a personal preference, and the Raptor may be <5% more capable offroad but have to settle with way less power, sound like crap, and cost the same if not more in the current market.
Yeah….& I get the appeal of the TRX don’t get me wrong, but I could easily play devils advocate as follows:

Raptor is made entirely of AL- this was previously relegated only to the highest end luxury/exotics, & still isn’t common in the auto industry to have a FULL Al body- no rust, & it contributes to the next advantage:

Raptor is way lighter, 7-800 lbs lighter maybe more depending on options between trucks, & it’s lighter in all the right areas where the TRX is literally heavy in all the wrong places. The raptor center of gravity is hunkered down. It handles better & feels more nimble as a result, which brings up advantage 3:

Since it’s so light the Raptor is essentially equal to the TRX performance-wise w/ a tune, their ttV6 engines react possibly the best to a tune only of any engines on the market. you could tune a TRX too…doesn’t seem like that nets the same power gain, jury’s out on durability,

The raptors suspension is far superior & beefier, overbuilt for a lighter truck & made by a manufacturer w/ a helluva lot more cred in offroad use

Oh & there’s also the superior T-case in the Raptor, the extra 2 cogs in the tranny, the much superior range AND MPGs, & the fact that it has a true 2wd/4wd/awd setup- 702hp be a lot more fun if you could use it un 2wd once in a while, and here’s a hint- they didn’t build that way from the factory (no 2wd option) b/c they’re really confident in all the drivetrain components holding up….

While saying the Raptor is more reliable MAY be objective- it certainly has a lot more history/real world testing behind it to back that statement up- regardless, as you just pointed out, the consumer market has shown us which truck they deem more valuable & which truck holds its value more- not up for debate.

So there are some pretty good advantages the Rappy holds Over the TRX- plus you can measure shit on the tailgate, take a nap in the front seat, & eat a picnic lunch on the center console :)

More than likely. I really don’t hate EVs but they’re just a bit soulless. Instant power is hard to beat though. Until then, I’ll just beat the hell out of my 700hp dinosaur.
Completely agree. I test drove a Tesla Model S few years back. It was ok, interior def not up to a car costing 100k. More recently I test drove a Taycan 4S. The power and instant acceleration was incredible, but it just did nothing for me otherwise, and I've owned 7 Porsches since 2015 all of which I either liked or loved and some of which I tracked.

One thing people don’t fully realize until they drive some back to back, or maybe what I should say is…raw performance #s don’t tell the whole story. I too have owned/driven a lot of performance vehicles on/off road, on tracks some too, I have a crazy fast/overbuilt C5Z vette 718whp w/ nearly every nut & bolt touched in one way or another on it, but if I was going to add another vehicle to the stable many of my choices are much less powerful/“slower” than the Z & yet provide more enjoyment in other ways.

Civic-R, M2 comp, Cayman-S, Subie Sti, CT4V blackwing manual, Chevy SS 1LE, new upcoming Nissan Z, - there’s more to driving enjoyment than pure straight line acceleration or eye popping braking force. The way a vehicle feels overall, steering feedback, cornering feel, a drivers seat that feels like a cockpit, switch gear that looks like it’s yanked outta a race car, exhaust growl/burble, heel toe rev matching, power shifting, Having An actual transmission w/ gear shifts you can feel (or better yet- perform on your own), intake growl, a mild rocking/shivering @ idle from a slightly lopey factory cam, I could go on & on….sometimes it’s nice to drive a slower car as fast as possible.

If you’ve ever ridden sport or dirt bikes I think the concept of enjoying a “slower” bike that you can actually ring out every gear to screaming redline is more rewarding/satisfying than a liter bike+ that can’t be ridden to its full potential even on a race track unless a) it’s a big friggin track & b) you’re a REALLY good rider. Sure- I enjoy straddling a Busa or a Vmax too, but for entirely different reasons.

Wrong wrong and wrong. Go drive a damn trx before saying their performance is essentially the same. The trx would spank the raptor with 3.5 second 0-60. Stop with this non sense. My trx weighted at 6250 and my raptor at 5850. That’s 400 not 700 and the 400 extra is not offset by the 4hp difference

I’ve driven em twice, like I said, my raptors tuned, The bigger difference is in the 0-60 as you mention, you say the TRX does 0-60 does 3.5 but C&D & other rags testing showed 3.7, either way a tuned Raptor does it in 4.2-4.5, but through the 1/4 its a much closer race.

Also…I can’t help myself but correct ignorance, you say “wrong wrong wrong” to my post majority of which has nothing to do w/ straight line acceleration & all of which is factual, but if you want to just say “wrong”- fine, I’ll retort but saying I emphatically disagree & while your butt dyno may tell ya one thing the FACTS prove differently, & I’ll give ya some receipts to prove it rather than just stating ignorance “wrong wrong” (so the TRX does have 2wd? It doesn’t have dinky Bilstein shocks? The TRX is all of a sudden a full Al-bodied vehicle? It doesn’t have a relatively tiny tank & shit gas mileage? The raptor resale/value retention isn’t noticeably better? Mmmmmkay)

But here ya go w/ the factual data to back up my assertions- a BASE TRX w/ no options weighs 6350 lbs according to ram (& they’re known to lie- every other review comes up w/ 6396 lbs lowest weight- but I digress) your raptor may be all loaded up mine weighed 5760 lbs w/ a few gallons & otherwise empty on a certified truck scale, the official ford advertised weight for a base CC? 5697 lbs, 6350-5697 = 653 lbs jerky

A listing of the fastest “stock” TRX’s from TRXforum attached….but if you care to scroll through the discussions seems like weight reduction is common on the top times.

Regardless- a recent 1/4 mile slip from a Mainline tuned 2019 Raptor outta Gainesville FL, otherwise stock performance-wise, tune only. Puts it right in middle of the pack w/ those TRX’s

And that’s a gen2 Raptor in humid-ass FL weather….I imagine then Gen3s may perform
Even better w/ the coil-over rear & since they dyno higher stock than the Gen2’s….

“Wrong wrong wrong”? I don’t know bout that bud

These comparisons crack me up. Who cares really, get what makes you happy and ignore the rest. I driven both and enjoyed them. I ultimately went with the Raptor since I've owned more Fords than Dodges in the past, and at this point in my life I don't need a race truck. Been there done that. Rap got enough power for what I use. Although the sound of the TRX S/C whine and V8 is a thing of beauty. You really can't go wrong with either one. Just enjoy your ride.

The *** for tat can be amusing….but you gotta at least know what the F you’re talking about or be able to back it up if you’re going to make assertions I question if the guy even owns a TRX somehow he found one that weighs 100-146 lbs less than a base model w/ 0 options….

You must know better since you own both and actually had to weigh both to get them titled. I digress

This should be common sense but the shipping weight and curb weight are two different things. If you care enough google the difference and you will see what I mean. The shipping weights are standardized most of the time and do not take into account a few different factors. Your TRX doesn't weigh 625X lbs. driving around, guarantee it. Driving around a delivered TRX you would be closer to curb weight/6400 lbs. than 6200 lbs. Unless you have a pic of your delivered TRX on a scale the weight on the title doesn't really mean much in the real world.

And you have to weigh a car after you take delivery to get a title?? That is news to me. Do they have weigh stations at the DMV or something? California thing? Never had to do that where I am from.
