Finally got around to building a bumper for the Black truck. Wanted a radius bent top tube and wanted it tucked in enought to look good, but not flush so it would actually do something if i needed to "bump" something. For the most part it would save the palstic valence or grill when mowing down saplings and tall grass...

Anyway, could not find anyone that could or would radius bend the top 1.75 tube. Went and saw a hot rod building buddy and told him my dilema, and he pulled out a Harbor Freight tube roller with 1.5 or 2.0 dies. I picked the 2 and got to work.
The HF roller is probably good for conduit or other steel that does not have .120 wall, as we broke the roller numerous times. It would pull the threads or shear the bolt in the handle-wheel/handle shaft. Crap design, but we got it close.
I had already cut the frame horns off like you would on an SVC bumper and boxed the end of the frame with a 3/16 cap. After doing all that cutting and welding I changed my mind on how I wanted to do this and ended up making boxed end cap that would slide over the horn and be cross bolted. I used .250 plate to make the boxed caps. Total overkill, but its what I had. Whipped up a couple of up tubes to connect the boxes to the top tube.

After a week of driving around with it like this, I got to work making the down tubes, crossmember bracket and skid plate. Dont like how other bumpers use the steering rack bolts to hold the crossmember bracket so I made several prototypes that all ended in the scrap pile. I decided to use a 1/4 inch channel that covers the gap in the crossmember and gives a place to land the downtubes. I wanted to keep the stock bottom skid and this actually adds bracing for that. Now I can jack the truck up right from the center crossmember while skids are on.

Didnt mention it in last thread, but my 3/4 inch drill bit choncked after 1 hole so the other 3 boxes got an ugly plasma cutter hole..lol It works and you dont see it with bolts and washers on.

Last night I cut a piece of aluminum, welded some tabs on the inside of the tubes and got the skid hung. Tossed a skim coat of body color paint on the tubes and realized that I'm an idiot cuz I still have to weld tabs on for the light bar that will come off the roof and onto the top bar!!! so I guess its 90% done now

Mine stick out a lot. Been thinking about it some.
Its the most common position for most of the frame cut bumpers from SVC, RPG, custome etc... Its also the mounting kit that comes with my Baja Kits front pre-runner kit.tucked.pngtucked2.jpg
I talked to a few guys that have lots of desert miles and if you nose it in hard enough to catch the resi you are probably tearing up the front of the truck.
I dont think its an issue.
I stole a couple pics from the gram (#tuckedtuesday) that show jumped trucks nosing it in and you would literally need to stand it on its end to catch one. Second picture has the same set up as mine.
I dont rock race my truck, so wouldnt have to worry about hitting a rock that high up either.

I actually recognize both of those trucks, lol. I was at the second event. The jumps are pretty sharp so you do tend to nose dive a bit.

I’m about to go on a trail run in florida so we’ll see how it fares on those trail. I tend to agree with you and an approach angle issue will likely happen before I catch it on a nose dive.

Here’s a photo of mine. I have the newer version of the kings and I feel like the mount pushes them out a bit further than the original version.

When we were laying out the bumper I didn’t have the coilovers and mounts to see where to put the “brace” tubes. I would like to angle the resi’s up a touch but I think we put that bar rightin the wrong spot, lol.

Here is a nose heavy landing I had a durhamtown and a few once I got everything buttoned up up front.

Thoughts?

I think the mounting brackets are the same as mine, however it looks like your resi is pushed further forward in it.
I'll take a closer look at mine and post pic from that angle. My driveway pictures are not great.
