Dead Gen 2 35k Miles

You would know it if it threw a rod or seized, it would brick the whole engine. Would not turn over at all. Surely ford will stand behind it

2018 35k miles. Bought two months ago from Lincoln dealership. Mfgr warranty out, still have drivetrain and ESP. Driving yesterday and noticed a slight vibration on acceleration at pretty much any speed. Wasn’t sure if I had some ice (Minnesota) built up on driveline, wheels etc. Stopped at about 5 miles and checked oil. (Oil change done less than 3000 miles ago by Lincoln dealer). Oil was between the dots. Car sat for an hour while we were at the event. Left and noticed a faint noise that sounded like an exhaust leaks but so hard to tell in that short distance. Made a right hand turn and heard three popping noises similar to a faulty cv joint but a little louder( I’m only using cv joint sound as an example of the sound). Then about mile 5 I noticed the truck was bogging down. Then within one mile the oil pressure light came on and the engine shut off. Immediately parked on the shoulder. Did not attempt to restart. Had it towed to Ford. It was dark out at about zero degrees on the side of a busy highway so I didn’t get under the hood after it died. Why do I have an overwhelming feeling my motor fried itself? Just coming out of a Powerstroke that lost the engine at 98k. Anyone else have an immediate and unforcasted total catastrophic engine failure? SORRY FOR ANY TYPE-o’s, I’m highly irritated and can barley see the keys on the phone. Thanks
So, you do have warranty. I would let them handle as you documented oil issues and low end thump (knock). I would bet the engine is fried, which is not uncommon to the 3.5 eco. Get them to cover, and decide if it’s better to buy extended warranty, or trade and get something else. To me, I would unload asap and buy something completely different that doesn’t have these same repetitive issues.

Wow. You’re really off the rails this time @Kuan. There are no known oil issues, and no “known low end thump” (whatever that nonsense means). Engine failure is not common. The guy bought a 5 year old used vehicle and experienced an issue that has yet to be diagnosed. You’re making things up as you go, as usual.
Was wondering the same thing about all these "known" issues. From all I read prior, and since buying (and personally experienced so far), there are very few "common", or "known" issues. Just like any other brand. I know of the Cam Phasers, but Ford was great at standing behind them and redesigning and repairing free for most, rather than slapping another defective one in (like Porsche does with the VarioCam sleeves)...

And yes...Gloom and doom, with no idea what the actual issue is yet. I had a coil fail on a 911 Turbo once and it sounded like it was toast :)

Exactly! Sad to hear Porsche didn’t address their issue, they are amazing cars. I’ve done repairs on a (‘64?) 356 (fuse box and electrical) and multiple engine/drivetrain/body/electrical repairs during restoration of an ‘87 924S. They’re certainly different, but with the service information they’re not too bad to work on. I learned on the ‘87 that there is not only a crank seal, but an crank o-ring behind that. Unique design. But once both were replaced, she was dry.

The guy I quoted has been banned from this forum and others multiple times and always reappears under a new username to say the same thing with the same bad attitude; he’s not here to help anyone or add anything positive to the discussion, only to gratify his own low self worth by spreading misinformation, lies, and hate. It’s really quite sad.

Agreed. Overall great cars...I have had 20+, so I must like them. And with the info at hand, not bad to work on...But without it, there are some crazy conditions to figure out. Very clever German engineers!

One of my fun repairs on the 997 TT...I found the trick on 911's is drop the motor and take off the bumper first...much easier that way as opposed to trying from the top :)
