This is what I thought of when I first saw the bronco raptor. Icelandic off road trucks for traveling on glaciers Screenshot_20220129-084320_Chrome.jpg

Lots of discussion on the fender “flares”. I read the actual Ford rationale concerning assembly line and paint booth widths, but Ford could have done better, but at what additional cost? I still like the Bronco Raptor and the fact that Ford (still!) builds real-life Performance vehicles that I can afford to drive. I’ve owned as many as 4 at once, but I’m down to only 3 FP vehicles (for now!)

this thing is legit.

that said, someday i will meet the ford branding exec who named this thing and punch him right in the d!ck.

i can imagine the meeting:

VP D-Bag:
“we need to strategically leverage the brand equity associated with the raptor to fully realize the cross platform synergies which will maximize shareholder value”

Entire Room of dumb Ivy League MBAs with zero real world experience and for whom “brand dilution” is something that happens when you get too much water in your 12 year old scotch.

“we agree boss. slap that raptor name on everything. nobody will know the difference.”

and people wonder why the domestic manufacturers consistently snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. it’s just that kind of stuff.

oh, and just in case anyone from ford is reading, your branding team is dangerous. from the raptor to the mach-e mustang, your branding strategy will be a harvard business case for brand extension fail someday.

my normal consulting rate is $200 / hr.. but for projects such as this i would do product in-kind consideration.

There was already a Ranger Raptor…the designation is being used only on high speed off road capable products. It’s not like they’re slapping the name on an Escape. The Bronco Raptor most certainly is legit, and it’s clearly worthy of the Raptor name.

Leveraging brand recognition is a smart strategy, they’re not “watering it down” on a $70,000 Bronco that has the same hardware and capability of an F-150 Raptor.
