2021 Raptor 37 Package after 650 miles…my feedback

Everyone I know who has owned a Range Rover has had issues w/ them ranging from constant minor annoyances to major stranded on road/left @ dealer for weeks & weeks w/ loaner. Don’t really understand the attraction when there are so many other capable & more reliable (& often cheaper) Euro SUVs that also perform well & have that high end lux feel.

While understandably it’s really not even broken in yet, any comment on the MPG in the 37” Gen3 vs your previous Gen2?
I have driven it @1600 miles already…the mpg for the gen 3 is about 13mpg vs 15 mpg on gen 2…I have noticed that I am driving with a more aggressive throttle…the gen 3 is much more responsive and entertaining to drive. The engine and transmission are definitely working better together…I think FORD sandbagged the power numbers on the 21 raptor …it feels much stronger. My gen 2 wasn’t slow but it never felt quick either …the engine just made more “noise” as rpms increased…power seemed flat..not bad …just flat. The gen 3 has better engine / transmission programming. The exhaust sounds good to bystanders …inside the cabin not so much—-I’m enjoying the 21 more each day.

Is it because the engine throttles at a lower rpm 3,000 vice 5 in the gen2?

I’ve already driven over 2,000 miles in about 4 weeks…my feedback on this truck is more favorable as time and mileage pass.

I think Ford sandbagged the power numbers…my truck with 37s walked away from my buddies 2018 raptor on 35’s in all 3 drag tests (5mph roll out…). About 3 car lengths at 75-80mph. I wonder if Ford limits power during the break-in period (ie limits boost etc ) until a certain mileage is reached ? It seems my truck is making more power after @800 miles??

I was a little concerned initially how well the blue interior would handle dirt and abuse …after 1 desert trip and a spilled milk shake in the back seat…I was surprised how easy it was to clean with a simple damp towel. No stains…so while I would have chosen a black interior …the blue is easy to live with.
The major appeal of the 21 raptor to me versus my 2018 would be the much better better transmission and engine programming. The suspension system revisions are a close second. The suspension has much greater ability to handle on and off road trips…it’s smoother in town and more sorted off road. The front amd rear suspensions finally work in harmony. Good job FORD. But some people are experiencing weird suspension noises and clunking so …did this progress come at a price ? Hopefully those experiencing suspension issues get resolved soon.
The interior while nice to look at comes at a price. My 2018 gauges worked perfectly for me. My 2021 gauges have a mind of their own…a big center screen is nice to look at but do I need to see my music or navigation on a bigger screen? Again nice —-but not necessary.
My 2018 cost 67k…my 2021 cost 80k…is it 13k better ? I’m on the fence. The 37 package is 7500….from what I’ve been reading so far …I could add 37s without any mods for @4-6k—sell the factory 35s for 2-3k…maybe that’s the better route. IF FORD put a different rear axle ratio..then the 37 would make more sense. The recaro seats are great …are they better than the 2018’s? It’s too close to call. At $73-75k the 21 is great. Loaded up —-It only makes the gen2 look like a better value.

I've owned two. First one was a Range Rover Sport that I owned for 1 year 12k miles (swapped it for a 4Runner to do heavier off-roading without worrying about damaging it) and the second and current one is a Range Rover Sport I've owned for 3 years and about 60k miles.

First one doesn't count because the mileage was so low, but the second one has been the most reliable vehicle I've owned. I've taken it in for two service intervals (they're every 16k miles), two software updates, regular tire rotations, one regular brake service, and nothing else. Most "reliability" complaints about modern Range Rovers (2014+) are centered around the infotainment system being slow or buggy. I have the goldilocks year (2017), so I haven't had any issues with that. Just a very capable vehicle (on-road and off-road) with a great SCV8, amazing fit and finish, and a big fuel tank and great driving range for road trips.

Now you know one person who has owned a Range Rover without issues :) -- I do still want to buy a Raptor though :p

The Range Rover Sport looks great in red with a black top. I feel it’s the best color combo available. Always wanted one but scared off because of some of the horror stories I have read. My neighbor owns the V8 version and he has put 70k trouble free miles on his.
