Ford stacking unfinished Raptors to simply create as many MY 21's as possible?

Some have suggested, reasonably, that the unfinished Raptors have been left to sit while the parts needed are used to build others at the same because it might be more efficient for Ford to not interrupt the assembly line.

However, after reading about so many orders not being filled and being rolled over to '22, perhaps Ford is trying to simply produce the most year 21's that they can without regard to their actual ability to complete those vehicles? To do this, they don't care that some going down the assembly line will not be completed and sit for months because the vehicle is already vested as a '21.

Is it just an overall numbers game so they can claim production of much higher number of Raptors for '21? Maybe they are also trying to avoid the hassle of clearing out assigned vin #'s, as would be required to turn each into a '22?

It would be extremely difficult and expensive to change the VINs on the vehicles. They are stamped in many places, including the frame.

Ford doesn't want the vehicles sitting, they do not make money on vehicles that are sitting, in fact, they have spent a lot of money making vehicles that are a drain on their resources.

They also have union considerations, if they have parts, I'm sure that the agreement with the UAW requires the plant to operate.

It's most likely poor scheduling and unmet delivery expectations from their suppliers.

No clue why they would tie up capital in a very capital intensive business on purpose.

Question, does a truck degrade sitting unused for 30-60-90 days? I want your honest opinion. I can think of a few items which may qualify as degrading but a truck built 90 days after another one will have the same abilities and lifespan.

Ford can't book the revenue until they ship them to their customers(the dealers). They have every incentive to get them out the door.

The carry cost per day to have all those trucks sit is a staggering number. It’s also incredibly inefficient to have it go down the line, then transported, rent the lot, bring it back, pay someone again to “build it again (at whatever scale it is) etc etc. So for that reason I’m out on this logic. Ties up way too much capital.

I think they have a very large sh$t sandwhich they are trying to sort thru at the moment, to the point they don't even know what to publicly say about the situation. I agree with Olsen that the cost of what is going on is staggering. I am confident at no point did Ford want to deliver 21's in 22. I would think that would be some pretty significant egg on your face in the automotive world

You guys talking about renting a parking lot as a consequential cost for a company with 125b in annual revenue is funny

If it were then the parts would be used to complete those vehicles and not build others

The union angle above does make sense though

This literally makes zero sense.

Ford is spending more than they want to on revisiting each vehicle missing parts, 0 gains on having vehicles sit. Hopefully the in service dates are changed from the build dates for warranty purposes, which I would also fully anticipate that Ford is cognitive of.
