Hi - pretty new here and just got a '20 raptor last month.
here is what the local installer recommended as a "first pass" to improve the sound system.

Audison APS 8" low profile sub 500 max, 250 continuous
JL JD 500/1 to drive the sub
JL VXi 600/6i to drive the other truck speakers
NAV TV zen a2b

we are not doing replacement speakers except the above Audison sub replacement for the time being.
all in w install just over $3200

thoughts welcome

As far as the equipment is concerned I think that's a solid setup and would sound good. Door speakers can easily be updated later so I think that plan is good but if you don't want it to cost quite as much you could look in to a different multi-channel amp for the speakers and a separate audio processor but that's just my .02. I have a single 8" in the back of my SCAB and it is easily loud enough to satisfy what I'm looking for.

Edit: I looked up the Audison 8" and it's peak power is 300w, RMS of 100w. The JL JD 500/1 RMS output at 4ohm (the speaker's impedance is 4ohm) is 250w. Just something to be aware of.

thanks for the reassurance on the first part

edit - i meant the APS 8 not the AP 8 - i have updated my post. the APS is rated 500 max, 250 continous - so it should be good to go

i bet that pounds! nice!
i havent self-installed car audio in probably 15 years and while i THINK i could do it myself, i also remember that some of my wiring jobs back in the day looked, uh, "less than pro" lol.

Are you utilizing the factory sub enclosure or having a box built for it?

Yes it’s pretty much junk for anything serious. I tried with a retrofitted driver and amp to power it. You get some added bass but SQ is terrible. Looks like under the seat will be the only option for me.
