Anyone consider/test drive a TRX, Gen 2 vs. Gen 3 Raptor, and Raptor R?

I currently own a 2020 Raptor, and I had a 2019 prior to that. I've been watching the Gen 3 Raptor closely, and due to the excellent resale and current used Raptor market, I could potentially upgrade without taking a loss. I would definitely get $8k to $10k more than I paid for my current Raptor.

I've found Ram dealers willing to order a TRX for $9k to $10k below MSRP. I haven't checked to see what Ford dealers would order or sell a current inventory Raptor at. I'm guessing the best would be MSRP.

With the Raptor R around the corner, I am considering it as well, but most likely I will be priced out of it. I am hesitant to sell my 2020 considering the great deal that I got on it. I assume the Gen 2 and Gen 3 Raptors will hold their value better than a TRX, so I am probably better off sticking with my Gen 2 if I have any hope of a Raptor R.

Has anyone seriously considered a TRX and purchased a Gen 3 Raptor instead. If so, what ultimately swayed your decision? And if you purchased a TRX or Gen 3, do you plan on getting the Raptor R?

I considered a TRX but after driving a Rebel, which felt like a giant boat, seeing gas milage and looking at all the issues like engine squeak guys are having on the TRX forum, I opted for the Raptor.

Back in August I went from a 2020 Raptor to a 2021 TRX (I got $4,000 more than I paid for the Raptor and the dealer was $5,000 off sticker). I've been a Ram guy for a really long time, but I bought the Raptor because I wanted to try something different. I honestly can't say anything bad about the Raptor, but it's hard to argue with the HP of the TRX. If you don't mind 10mpg while driving back and forth in town, the TRX is pretty fun. I'm more than happy to answer any specific questions about my experience if you want to ask.

President of my company has a TRX, and let me tell you, that squeak is horrible.

What was your around town mileage like in the Raptor, I currently get about 14mpg without much highway driving.

I did consider it for a minute - at least I thought that maybe I was doing myself a disservice by not considering the TRX. I am not obsessed with MPG, but I do drive 30,000 miles per year, so the prospect of ~10mpg was a little scary - I got 18mpg in my G2 Raptor. And then I remembered that the TRX is still an FCA product, and that's a deal breaker for me... I'm sure there are plenty of happy TRX owners out there, but in the end, it's just not something I want to own.

I had a Gen 1 for 7 years and loved everything about it, but beat it to death offroading. Then got a Gen 2 and loved everything about it except the engine, it just had no soul. Was praying for a V8 comeback in the Gen 3 and when Ford crushed that dream I looked at the TRX. A month later I bought one but still kept my Gen 2. Three months after that I found that I hadn't driven the Raptor once, as the TRX is just awesome in every way. Sold the Raptor last month, no regrets. Will I look at the Raptor R when it eventually comes out? Sure will, but it will need to be pretty amazing to win me back.

hard to argue with that. And as a lifelong ford guy, it kills me to admit that I may be venturing away with the value the trx offers

We were in line for a gen3 and then dealers came out with there 9k off sticker on the trx. It made the truck cheaper than our gen 3. Was very hard to argue it at that point. For those pointing out quality issues and squeaks with the trx.. do we need to point to the blown engines and trans leaks from members who have taken delivery of there third gen? All manufacturers have issues and being on a forum it exacerbates them. As people rarely post daily saying “truck started this morning everything’s great” we love our current raptor and maybe someday will be back in one at some point.
