I have a 2020 Raptor with 6300 miles. The check engine light came on the beginning of December with the message in the Ford pass app “the Engine Control System has detected an electrical concern with one of the exhaust emission sensors.” The light comes and goes, on for a couple days and off for a couple days.

I had trouble getting it into the local dealer. They booked an appointment 10 days out and then wanted me to leave it for a week before they could plug it in to see what was wrong. I said I would bring it back next week when they had time and they said I would still have to leave it for a week. Needless to say I won’t use this dealership.

I took the truck to another dealership that’s further away last Friday. The light was on since Monday and it went out when I got there and was off all day Friday. They said they couldn’t test the sensors if they weren’t tripped.
Of course Saturday morning the light came on and stayed on Saturday and Sunday over the course of 250 miles.

I took the truck in Monday morning and they said it was a catalytic sensor and had to order it for Tuesday. They said that it didn’t test bad but they had to try it.
Tuesday the sensor didn’t solve the problem and they said they had to consult with Ford. Wednesday Ford had them do some additional testing and told them to replace the catalytic converters.

Today, Thursday they replaced the converters and the problem is still there. They want me to leave the truck while they consult with Ford.
I have a free loaner car, the truck is inside but I am losing confidence in their ability to fix this.
@FordTechOne any advice?
Truck is stock.
Thank you in advance. Bob

Might be something is dumping fuel which is leading to a fault reading in the O2 sensors, my guess. At least you have a loaner vehicle, this dealership sounds better than the first one. What codes did they find?

They are working with me but I don’t know what codes are showing up. They said catalytic sensor. I was surprised that it wouldn’t be more specific and asked if they had a top of the line scanner. They said laptop.

Sounds like they aren't assigning it to a qualified technician. If they can't figure it out during this current diagnosis, I would recommend calling Ford Customer Service and request that the local Field Engineer be involved.

Thank you Sir. This is exactly the advice I was looking for. I am not getting a warm fuzzy feeling regarding the ability of the tech. They will Not let me talk to him. It’s a smaller dealership so it might be above their ability.

Sounds like it's a P0420 code which would either be a bad O2 sensor or a bad cat. I get the same code, just waiting to bring it in.

Sound like that dealership have part changers not technicians. I would find another dealership, I don't have time going back and forth for guessing games.

These rookie tech concerns are what I have been concerned about. I stopped in today and met with the service manager and the mechanic/tech.

They were very accommodating and actually quite knowledgeable. The large plug for the engine wiring harness has some sort of loose connection. With the truck running it will shut off with a wiggle of the connection. They are waiting for Ford’s advice but want to replace the harness. Interesting that there are multiple harness’s available as it seems to be a known problem.

@FordTechOne what do you think?
