Possible to move the driver seat back farther?

Everyone likes a different position. I've always set up the way they recommend at RA, with my elbows at 90 degrees. Lots of people find that too cramped. I also like my seat raised all the way up for visibility. I have a friend who drives a Tacoma, and so is starting out sitting in a hole. He's shorter than I am but likes his seat all the way back and reclined. He slouches to reach the pedals. His arms are fully extended to reach the wheel and I'm surprised he can see over the hood. That would drive me bonkers, but that's what he likes. If he was tall, he'd have trouble finding a vehicle that would have the room he wants. There are way more variables in play than height and inseam.

At 6'8" I'm surprised to see this post (I still laugh at the picture of me when I bought the truck, and I'm taller than the truck). I'm still very surprised at the amount of leg room in the truck. I'm also thrilled that the truck has the telescoping steering wheel (although at times I actually wish it came out further). I'm not sure what package your truck has (mine is the 2A), and here's how I have my seat set:
  • Seat all the way back
  • Seat raised as much as possible
  • Butt portion of seat lowered all the way
  • Front of seat by legs raised all the way up
Not sure if that makes any sense or helps at all.

Same basic height as you and set up the same way. At times wish I didn't have the sunroof only to gain some headroom for raising the seat. If the seat sent any further back not sure I could comfortably reach the steering wheel. Bought Raptor as it was the biggest in clsss.

I'm so confused. How would you reach the wheel? I'm 6'2" and with my seating position I could move the seat back more than 6" more. You'd have to be 8ft tall to need it all the way back.

I agree with everyone else, 6'-4" is by no means that tall where you would not fit comforably. I am 6-4 myself and would never drive with the seat all the way back. If you attend a professional driving school you would better understand why a driving position so far back is not ideal. But if you do want more room you could always fab up some adapter seat mounting brackets, would not be too hard... just dont use thin sheet metal. :jester:

This. With your back and shoulders flat against the seat you should be able to rest your wrist on the top of the steering wheel. With that position your arms will be able to be bent while gripping the wheel at 3 and 9. Also you shouldn't be using the pedals with your tip toes. Not only does that seem uncomfortable but it's downright dangerous if you need to do emergency braking.

I’m 6’10 and I get along fine in it. On long drives I take my shoes off and relax which helps with the room and not having a moonroof helps a bunch. My last truck was a tundra which had more leg room but it was really boring.
If you really want it back further you can ask any of those places that customize vehicles for handicap folks. I had it done to a car years ago but I don’t wanna mess with this truck like that. I just stomp on the accelerator and I forget all about the leg room.

Hit it hard enough and you can get another inch or two from the seat foam.

I’ll need some anti-gravity to get up to 5’11” from 5’10”. I’m pretty sure a friend of mine who is 6’8” wouldn’t even need my seat all the way back. Granted he used to drive an S10 somehow. His old truck looked too small for me.:D
