NJ is the basic 7% sales tax, so on Jeep costing $52k =$3640 sales tax one time only, but the next buyer is subject to paying the same 7% sales tax on it and if it is sold 5 times that is 5 times NJ collects 7% sales tax on the same vehicle. Outside of that is the Dealers clearcial fee, title fee, NJ supplemental title fee,Motor Vehicle Tire $1.50 fee per tire and they include the spare, and I'm sure I'm forgetting something that the dealer rapes you on, so roughly just about $885.00 in fee`s and $64.50 for a one year registration plus sales tax of $3640 and that was in 2018 0n a Jeep Rubicon

If you privately sell your Vehicle to someone and put down a low selling price trying to save them some sales tax you can rest assured they will get letter from the state requesting information as to why the sales price was lower than average and may want to see repair receipts, parts receipts etc. or a letter from the seller stating that they indeed sold you the vehicle for a lower price

I bought my Raptor out of state (NY) and only had to pay a $74.00 administration fee plus NJ registration fee good for 4 years for $284.50 so by purchasing out of state I was able to save a decent amount of money. I`m still curious to see what others have to pay

$71.42 this year in Ohio. No inspections and does not affect property taxes.

Was that for multi-year? I did 2 year for just shy of $78.
I pay just shy of $89 a year for my vanity plates on my mustang

What the hell is a garage tax?
It's essentially personal property tax. The county I live in charges a tax based on where you garage your vehicle - i.e. - Garage Tax. Last year, and again this year, I paid around $2,600 per year on my Raptor... it's just crazy. And 90 something % of the tax goes to support the schools while are roads are crap around here! Oh yeah... and I pay $10k in real estate taxes - that also goes to schools. And I have no kids.... never will. So damn frustrating.

$75 per year to renew tags here in Texas. Not based on value but rather the type of vehicle.

Yeah I lived in VA for 3 years and more than once found nasty grams in my mailbox from the state trying to Tax something I didn't own anymore.
Taxation without representation? Hmmm

Amazingly in the Lone Star State where I now reside Military tags are free as was my first two years of registration and only charges us vets a $25 annual renewal as well.

No State income Tax either...
Don't mess with TX!

6% sales tax in Michigan. $240 for license plate renewal on the 2013 raptor. Will find out in a few months what the 2020 raptor will be.Fee is based on value, decreases slightly for first 3 years and then that's what you pay from then on. 2020 will be in the $300-400 range I'm guessing. Oh yeah, and our insurance is the highest in the nation.

$87.75 this past summer for my 2014. My 2008 Shelby GT was $3.25 cheaper to renew only costing $84.50. You can save $2 bucks renewing online or by mail but they charge you the $2 bucks back if you use a credit card.

Where in TN do you live that you have emissions testing? I live in TN and don't have that.
Davidson County. MARTA - $9 to sit in line, watch some one plug a cable into your ODBII port, use a mirror-on-a-stick to check if you have a cat, and then test your gas cap for leaks. After all this you get a printout with either a smiley face or a frowney face - seriously. If you get a frowney face you have 30 days to correct the problem and get tested again without dropping the $9. A smiley face indicates that, then you can in fact pay for your tags.
