California just made being a Raptorboiiii that much harder.

CA is surrounded by states that would be happy to sell new ICE cars to CA residents. It doesn't ban the sale of used ICE cars either so you better believe there will be dealers that specialize in selling "used" vehicles with 15 miles in CA. Of course there are provisions I could be missing...just not seeing how this stops people from buying what they want just because they live in CA.

Can you still buy a gas lawnmower in CA? How about a boat? I am all for a nationwide ban on gas leaf blowers.

It's a valid point. Electric is no different than any other fuel source, it's superior in certain applications and inferior in others. My DeWalt electric weed trimmer is perfect for my small property, same with the leaf blower. If I was clearing a farm field in a commercial environment, I'd want a traditional 2-stroke. But the fact that I can maintain my property with a zero maintenance, inexpensive and relatively reliable piece of equipment is beneficial to me in that application.

The main difference between such an application and an automobile is that the ICE version of a trimmer uses the same technology from 75 years ago, while automotive technology has progressed to the point where the only tailpipe emissions are CO2 and water. Detractors act like we're still driving Model T's around. ICE vehicle have also proven to be more reliable than their electric counterparts, look no further than Tesla's worst-in-class reliability rating from JD Power. It's hard to come in below Jaguar, Land Rover, Mitsubishi, and Nissan, but Tesla still pulled off that feat.

That may not be the perfect analogy. I run an eGo trimmer and chainsaw. I spent 6 hours on cutting the yard last weekend and I’m still leaving at least an acre to overgrowth because I haven’t been able to get eyes on the terrain to be confident enough to take the mower back there. Hell, I have some ditches that would beach Lucille. I still use the electric trimmer and will never have another 2 smoke trimmer - I’ve had 3 of them give me nothing but trouble.
But yeah... same issue as with the electric cars - I have to either have a spare battery or wait when it’s out of juice.

Except the vehicle must have 7,500 miles on the odometer to fall into the used category. Welcome to CA.

Worth noting that an electric mower also makes significantly less noise than a gas mower. This means I can mow the lawn earlier in the morning with less concern of waking up the neighbors. Seems minor, but in the summer when the heat becomes unbearable by 9 AM, it makes a tremendous difference.

Completely irrelevant for passenger vehicles though.

And how many electric motors do they sell? I ain’t talking bout the lil pushers....why haven’t they made an electric lawn tractor? Seems like that would make more sense than a DD vehicle you gotta depend on daily to be fully juiced

I would guess there are two reasons why they don't make electric lawn tractors. The first being that you've increased the power requirements tremendously, since you are just turning a blade anymore, but moving the weight of the mower itself and the person riding. That means a bigger battery, more weight...etc. The other reason is that riding mowers have much more significant commercial market than push mowers. So rather just run for 45 minutes once a week (the size of one suburban lawn), they will need to run for I would guess around 5 hours a day. That issue is also why you never see a lawn contractor use electric weed trimmer and blowers either. No time to recharge.

When it comes to a DD, you have the 1st issue I mentioned, needing a lot of power to move the vehicle and rider, etc. Don't think you have the 2nd issue for a lot of people though. If you're never going over a 100 miles a day, you aren't running out of juice before you have a natural time period to recharge. Again, not for everyone, but fits for some. And that's not considering cost to own or environmental impact, just saying that the need to recharge batteries isn't going to be a problem for some uses.

Next door neighbor has a rechargeable zero turn riding mower. It has built in batteries. Seems to work pretty good.
