How does it happen? Could have been a mechanical defect. We purchased three Mercedes Metris vans at work. On cold mornings, mine smelled of fuel in the cab. They did some warranty work on the fuel system and it has been fine for 65,000 miles... so far.

One of the three burst into flames one night while parked in our lot.

Mine has been parked on the street every night away from the house after I read about a few owners on forums hear relays randomly energizing throughout the night while camping in theirs.

Wow! That is one hot Raptor with real looking flames painted on it.

Seriously now with the materials used in manufacturing, like Magnesium in Jeeps and other vehicles can`t be approached like a regular fire. If you had ever seen Magnesium burn it is so white hot and water helps turn it into Hydrogen Gas. I worked at a machine shop and sometimes they would take a small amount of shavings and light them up and then to top it off the grand finale was to throw it on top of the pile of snow from the plowed lot. I had never seen bright white glowing snow and stayed far away.

What about the electric cars and the lithium batteries! I know my local firemen are constantly getting trained on how to deal with them, as you know water and high voltage don`t mix well.

Hopefully no one was hurt but its incredible to see the aftermath, I guess the gas tank did not go off, that`s pretty amazing

Car-B-Ques happen. On Interstate 17 between Flagstaff and Phoenix car fires are a too regular occasion. Sometimes it’s a pickup pulling a camper that burns on the grade, other times it seems more random. The last one I saw in person was a Hyundai Sonota on a flat section just above one of the climbs.

Could be wiring, could be a faulty fuel line, or something somehow got against a hot exhaust component.

Someone put a gas can in the passenger cab and then somehow managed to ignite it? It is Florida (and at a gas station).
