So I bought my 2018 Raptor used with 25k miles on it a few months ago.. I have loved every
day of the truck until the last month and a half. It is pretty hot right now in Texas and I am in and out of my truck all day for work and am now starting to get frustrated with the heat. So yesterday I took it to a local shop and had them recharge the Freon and I did not see any change from it for cold temp. it does blow cold air it is just not what I am use to and it is almost impossible for the cabin of the truck to get cooled down.

I have to keep it on the highest fan setting to feel anything but it just isn't cold enough. I was use to a GMC in the past that would literally freeze my hands and steering wheel so I would always keep it on the lowest fan setting even in the Texas summer heat.

I will end up taking it to the dealer but any idea what it could be?

Another odd thing is that some days it will be much colder when I first start the truck then a few miles down the highway its not as cold.

I thought maybe that the fords do not get as cool I do remember talking to a friend and him complaining about the same situation but I asked another buddy who just bought a 2020 raptor and he said no complaints from him.

If anyone has any knowledge on this issue it is greatly appreciated.

How clean is your condenser ? full of bugs? Did you change your cabin filter out? My 2019 raptor 43 deg out the vents 117 ambient air.

My 2010 Raptor another story getting ready to change condenser. Blows cold then warms to 52 deg and 65 at idle . Already put new TXV and new compressor. Same crap , Condenser only thing left.

My 2014 Tremor was ice cold so i know how my 2010 should be.

I actually took a look at the condenser today it was not bad at all..

I have not changed the cabin filter I will see how it looks.

I doubt mine is even blowing at 65 degrees.

I don’t think the AC in an F-150 is all that great. My 2019 is adequate at best, and that’s thanks to the benefit of having cooled seats and remote start cool it down for 15 min prior to driving...in the evening (it would suck in the afternoon sun I would imagine)

My old 2010 F-150 AC was just ok, and the new Raptor is about the same.

My wife’s E Class Benz has great AC that will freeze you out.

Maybe check what the vent temp is in your cab with a thermometer, and see if recharging it will get it any lower?

Check that recirculate mode actually recirculates, could be it's stuck on fresh air. Makes a huge difference in the heat.

Check and make sure you have the recirc button on, so its just cooling the indoor cabin temperature and no outdoor air is coming in. If you have a way to measure the temp out of the vents, check the temp , you should be able to get in the 40s F after running for 5 minutes with the windows up and doors closed. Try putting a hose on the radiator/condenser and see if that lowers to temp into the 40s, if not, you should take it to the dealer.

Ha! Mine is doing the same thing. It's Jeckyl and Hyde, I tell you. Sometimes it will freeze you out, others will not. I think it has something to do the the blend door actuator only working sometimes. A few weeks back I had everything on max and drove for about 10 minutes, then something clicked and the AC started blowing way colder all of a sudden, I didn't touch any of the buttons.

Today, truck said it was 106 outside, I drove across town and had to have everything on full blast, recirc, etc, just to stay cool. Stopped to fill up about a mile from home, AC was blowing considerably colder once I started it back up, in fact I had to turn it down before I got home. I hadn't changed any settings.

Let us know if you get it figured out, please.

I use to have a Porsche 928 that blew so cold it would emit ice flakes at you! Glad we only need a/c here in Maine like 2 weeks out of the year!

Sounds like a TX problem not a raptor problem TBH.....better than a ME or northern MA problem- frozen door handles can’t get into truck, freezing balls off trying to get in/out etc- could be worse!

I don’t know crap about automobile HVAC, but like others it really seems hit or miss according to specific model, not manufacturer even (obvi use different OEM suppliers for various components)

my 2004 Pontiac GTO would blow AC so damn cold/hard @ full blast frost would start accumulating on the 1/8” strip of plastic in dash separating the 2 main AC vents in dead center of dash haha

The fact that u had to recharge a 2018 truck is not good , the leak could be pretty big . Sounds like a low Freon issue .134a should be around 30-40 psi on the low side ( suction ) and be better than beer can cold .
