Hey Guys,

So today I was driving back home and decided to get a bit heavy on the acceleration. All is good until about 2/3 gear and then I hit a massive boost loss. Also audible is a loud whooshing/Whirring sound, possibly from the turbos in WOT.

Driving around normally, it's fine, not limp at all. But when WOT the sound comes on and I slow down significantly from 2/3. So bad that the truck stays at high RPM longer than usual. I data logged with the nGuage and i had no boost at all in 2nd gear. Even at 6K + RPM. However, No CEL's or warnings present

My first thought is a loose connection or a hose that uncoupled. I checked the piping from the intercooler and the Tubes from and to intercooler seemed to be in place. I also didn't see any leaks coming from the truck.

I'm wondering if this is a turbo/ intercooler issue like a blown turbo or something or if its an issue with the piping. I will try and remove the skid to see if theres anything loose.

Mods include MPT tune, CAI, Wagner IT, TS BOV.

I appreciate the help.

Sounds like a blow off valve issue if all your couplers/charge pipes are good.

I'm beginning to think you are right about the BOV, or at least I hope so.
But, from the small research i've done, BOV's are not prone to leak, at least to the degree of causing a significant boost leak. I could be wrong.

Does the spring adjustment have anything to do with this or could it be a faulty valve or o-ring?

Im attaching the video of the runs. You can clearly see a drop in boost and the higher pitched whooshing sound as soon as I open the throttle.

ya your BV has an issue if its tial you can open it up and check maybe the spring is jammed or it has a diaphragm that might have a tear..but id focus on that blow off valve

It’s a TurboSmart BOV. I check the vacuum lines by the engine bay and everything seems to be in place.
I guess now it’s time to get underneath and check it out. Unfortunately I wasn’t the one that installed it so I’m going to have to figure out how to disassemble it and check it out

What year is your truck? I ran across a YouTube video a week ago and a 2020 owner was having the same issue and it stumped turbosmart and MPT. They sent him out a new BOV and He was having the same problem. Ended up having to go back to stock.

BOV for sure if everything is hooked up and tight. I looked into adding one of those, but read that many had issues with the early ones. I'd hit up the guys at TS and see what they think. Maybe you can buy a new one and send the old one back and if it's bad, they'll refund your money. I've had luck doing that with parts on other stuff for years.

Couplers can also develop cracks that only open up under high boost and you might not see with a naked eye. Might want to double check all of them.

2017 but I dont know how long that BOV has been in place. Previous owner added the BOV and possibly the inter cooler.

it’s the Super sonic BOV, I haven’t heard about these failing. I did see some content about the eBov they have and it’s garbage. I’ll have to look into it. But I’m stuck purchasing another one since the previous components were removed.

I’m going to try and take it apart tomorrow. Not looking forward to it as I don’t know exactly what I’m looking for. I’ve seen videos about the spring and o-ring but not much else. If anything I’ll reach out to them to see what they can do.

Couplers look good from the sides but I’ll look at them better when I remove the skid tomorrow. Weird part is that 3/4 throttle is great. Only when WOT do I get that significant pressure loss. I tried to tighten the spring adjustment (not sure if it helps) but I wasn’t able to. Going to have to remove it to adjust it
