Last year I took the plunge and bought a 2019 802A oxford white raptor. I quickly fell in love with it and opened my eyes to the offroading community(only having sports cars in the past).

I've always enjoyed doing modifications and building out my cars. It wasn't until I started going to Texplex on a regular basis where I saw all these fully built out gen 1s just ripping it up and sounding amazing.

So I decided to sell the Gen 2 and look into gen 1s. Wanted to see what it'd cost to buy one(as close to stock as possible) and build it out to be my own Prerunner style/baja truck. It took a few months but finally found one, 2014 SE Tux Black - 1 owner 73k miles. It was owned local firefighter, he babied it, and is in amazing condition.

It took less than a month to take the truck down to TMX in Dallas to get the first phase of work completed.

Phase 1

BD Squadron Pro spot A - pillar
Mid Perch factory fox shocks
RPG Tie Rods(blue)
RPG Stage 3 rear suspension
King bump stops
+3 Deavers
R1 Concepts slotted/drilled rotors
R1 Concepts heavy duty pads(Front/Back)
Mag Hy-Tex diff cover
NFab mounted y straps
Turn down exhaust w/ magnaflow muffler
Fuse 27 relocation

Phase 1.5(These parts are ordered - waiting for delivery to install)

Baja Smurf Bumper
BD Squad Pro mounted on radiator support
GJ Motorsports 3rd brake light with BD s2s

I have a YT channel for fun to document the build and my experience so far;

I'll be doing the Wyoming trail days first weekend of august and excited to see how it compares to the gen 2 after all these mods.

Not knocking you at all on switching from the GEN2 to a GEN1. I have both myself.

But why not just turn your GEN2 into a built raptor like the ones you saw at Texplex instead of getting rid of it?

With enough suspension mods, you can make a GEN2 just as off-road capable as a built GEN1

That isn't in the budget for me, unfortunately.
