GEN 2 MTB Tailgate Pad

So another thing I’m looking into for my 2018 SCREW is a mountain bike tailgate pad.

I’d like to find one that fits our tailgate shape well, doesn’t scratch paint, protects from any dings from the bike and also holds the bike nicely. It’s probably a lot to ask, but I’m hoping someone here has a good recommendation.

I'm running the Dakine "DLX Curve", seems to work well. I used to have a standard Dakine pad on my 2011 (bought in 2008 or so) and it worked quite poorly on the 2019, the tailgate is incredibly thick on this truck, and the shape of the top didn't help either.

Supposedly the DLX Curve is designed for F-150s and Dodges with the thicc tailgates.

It also has a flap for the camera which works great until your friends deliberately close it because their pad doesn't have that feature.

Fox looks like a great option too though.

I've also been using the Dakine DLX Curve. I don't have much experience with other pads as this is my first truck and mtb. But the Curve fits well, has the camera flap, and gets the job done nicely.

The only problem is that my BakFlip MX4 cover doesn't close with the Curve pad on. I'm assuming that's a problem with all pads though. This sucks at trailheads once all the bikes are off and we're leaving the truck behind with gear in the bed. If I want to close the cover I need to remove the pad. It's just an annoying overhead.

So tonneau cover compatibility might be something to think about.

I use the Evoc tailgate pad and couldn’t be more impressed. Can hold multiple bikes and the top of the tailgate is ultra padded. Also has a Velcro flap for your rear view camera.

Check out the yakima gatekeeper, it has an extra pad/mount where the downtube rests. I've seen a few times where this point rubs enough to wear through frame tape and/or the paint on the bike.
