Hello all. I have a 2017 Raptor with almost 60k mi, never really had any major issues, but finally I've been getting "P0420 - Powertrain Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)" and "P0430 - Powertrain Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)". So I'm taking this as a sign for a new CAT...
I'm in the Garden State of New Jersey, so CAT-delete is out of quesiton. So with that said, I like to surey my fellow Gen2ers to see... (BTW, I have the bolt on Borla Atak CAT-back installed for 2 years, loving it)
1) Which CAT system is the best that will still pass emmision in NJ
2) Would I need a new set of O2 sensors, or maybe O2 sensors are spitting the errors?
3) Should I move up the ladder in replacing the exhaust manifold and possibly the turbos..
Thanks guys..

I get the same code every now and then. It could be an O2 sensor I guess. The oem cats are pretty decent, why not get it checked under warranty? Emissions warranty is longer than the power train.

I highly doubt you don't need new cats or O2s
Unless of course cats or O2s were defective to begin with, it does happen.

What you have is dirty cats and the rear O2s are telling the PCM the cats are taking to long to heat up and maintain temperature.

All you need is Cleaners!!!
MAF cleaner, Gas treatment and Catalytic cleaner!!!!
Check air filter!!!
And for god sake put 93 octane in her, getting cheap on gas will cause this or change gas station if you always run 93.

The another reason that it could be is the turbos are leaking oil, how is your oil consumption?

I had a similar issue at about 8k miles. Ford tried everything to make the Codes go away. Said the Cats wouldn’t fail that early.

However, they finally gave up and replaced the Cats under Warranty.

Problem went away. Vehicle now has 18k miles with no more issues.

Never figured out why. They think either the Cats had a problem to begin with or contaminated gas.

I also changed my primary gas station to one that sells a lot of premium gas.

haha, problem is all the stuff I have installed ahead of the exhaust, I'm certain that they are going to blame on my intake, chips, etc.

Truck has a pretty new AFE intake setup and always been drinking "Super" all her life.
I will give MAF Cleaner, Gas treatment and Catylitic cleaner a try..

Turbo oil leak? Shouldn't I see them under the truck?turbo?
With that said, I did had a bunch of Super Charger Overboost error right before I started to get this P0430.
It was during a long cruise, about 150mi into the drive going average 75mph, suddenly the truck was acting as if I lost a cylinder, started to acting rough, Turbo couldn't kick in, got the following errors: (see images)
I was affraid to stop the engine, so I got to a rest stop, turned off the engine, and restarted with some hesitation. Drove for another 40 mintues (got a little rough at about 20min point). Once got home. I turned off, restarted without any issue. Started the next day without a problem either. It just that from time to time the P0430 error code pops up. Could not time it for any rhyme or reasons, can be any time, morning, cold, hot, driving on highway or local streets.. totally clueless.

Anyway, thanks for any advise you may have.

Changing out the CAI to an after market one can be tricky, you're going to have to search using the forum search tab.
Look for CAI in the Gen 2 section, issues or problems or at least something close to that.
Gen 2 is not my specialty but I have seen threads and post about a vent tube that needs to be used, I think as a restrictor.

I'm sure you'll get an answer from somebody from the Gen 2 crowd that had this issue.

You need to have those DTCs diagnosed before condemning the cats; the faults you posted can result in skewed HO2S readings, up to and including DTCs set against the catalytic converters.

When you are on a steady cruise (as you mentioned), the PCM will frequently run the catalyst efficiency test. This includes not only monitoring static readings, but also initiating an active/tamper test by over/under fueling and then watching the HO2S trims. The PCM looks for the change in fueling to match the predicted model based on the test being performed. Any variance from the predicted model can result in DTCs. An engine performance issue will skew the test results.

If your case, you clearly have an engine performance issue. Have the root cause diagnosed and resolved before even attempting to diagnose any catalyst issues.

As you stated "my intake, chips, etc." put ALL that stuff back to stock, clear all the Codes, and drive it around, BEFORE you run any kind of "cleaner" ******** through the Fuel System, and see if you still have problems.

A lot of people run tunes, but not many use CAIs on our trucks due to the CELs they cause. If the AFE CAI is new like the OP mentioned, I would remove it first, clear the codes and see if the problems persist before adding cleaners.

CAIs provide very little benefit on a Raptor other than sound and bling under the hood.
