timing phaser TSB coming

About to pull the trigger on a 17 with 55k, these darn phaser issues have me worried though. My gen1 went 155k before I sold it and I’d love the same reliability out of this next one. I read through a bunch of threads, I hope ford tech is tight and there will be a fix once and for all on this.

When you buy the vehicle, get a warranty before you Walk out the door.

Roll that warranty right into the payment :) Especially since you've passed the sweet spot of 50k.

I plan on it. I’m going to try and get them to certify it at least....if it falls within the mileage parameters.

This is amazing, Ford has been using cam phasers since at least 04 model year and still hasn't figured it out.

It's not a a matter of "figuring it out". Every engine has unique specifications for oil pressure, oil volume (flow), cylinder head design, cam drive (chain/sprocket) design, and phaser operating angles. Ford provided the supplier with the specifications, and they manufactured them incorrectly. It sucks, but it's not as obvious as you made it sound.

Have they changed the design at all for 2020 to correct the issue?

Somewhere on one of these threads, there was information saying that there was a change made in mid-April of 2019. I would presume that carries through to 2020 models as well.
