GEN 2 Intercooler or radiator first?

Intercooler first because even in "normal" climates the Gen 2 heat soaks pretty bad but if you are planning to run it hard in the dunes in the UAE heat then you should definitely put a larger radiator in it.

Heat is the enemy of any high performance vehicle.

I would also look into transmission cooling upgrades.

Correct, it is still running around the same temp compare to stock when normal driving, but I do feel after letting off the throttle the coolant temp drop faster. At WOT situations there's is a big difference, the temperature stays put instead of raising unlike driving in 10th gear.

As far as the intercooler goes, I'm running the Garrett intercooler, the charged air temp is pretty decent, it actually keep temperature within 20 degrees of ambient even at wot.

What are the risks with warranty? My local dealer told me if I change my intercooler, and had a failure, for example blew a turbo, that they wouldn’t cover it. Normally this stuff doesn’t bother me, but after being turned away for a cracked diff because of my aftermarket suspension, I’m now hesitant.

Normally this stuff doesn’t bother me, but after being turned away for a cracked diff because of my aftermarket suspension, I’m now hesitant.

They would be well within their right to void turbo warranty with an IC swap

If it breaks it breaks. If you worry about any warranty, dont change anything on the car, they can always find excuses not covering you. My steering wheel is peeling and the heating wires are showing on the wheel under the leather, ford is not covering it, my springs were sagging, not covered, at that point I figured Ford got the warranty I cannot trust. May as well do whatever you want to it.

Had two ford before, never had any luck with warranty work, it's just not bumper to bumper like some other car company.

Your geographical situation is absolutely one where I’d think VERY hard about sandwiching one of the bigger FMIC’s like COBB vs. a heavier duty stock location IC like CVF/whipple/mishimoto.

reason I say that is I feel the big ass FMICs impede the cooling ability of the radiator on the engine block. I don’t see how they couldn’t/wouldn’t.

I also agree that IC first & T-stat + tune to have fans come on earlier before worrying bout a radiator. Stock radiator probably fine it’s brand new- if it was a 10 year old truck living in a cold climate w/ road salt in winters OR a 10 year old truck living ocean side in warm or cold temps as the sea air and/or road salt will absolutely accelerate the oxidization/degradation in performance of the stock rad (as will General age & miles of use being pelted w/ road grime/water/bugs etc)

Stacking radiators is not an issue. FMIC in hot climate is ideal - the radiator not getting enough air or getting 'heated air' from the IC are non issues.

Obviously not - they went with the option of 'barely enough to get by'. The stock IC is absolute garbage. It is woefully undersized and made of shit materials. Your truck heat soaks instantly with that POS.

I agree w/ 2nd statement first not so much. Just don’t see how it WOULDN’T effect airflow/cooling ability of the radiator & besides anytime you cramp the engine bay further it’s going to be tougher to extract heat. For me The other thing that I don’t like about em is they immediately cause you to tamper w/ other systems like the grill shutters & possibly sensors in the grill/bumper correct? Like ambient temp or the active cruise stuff?

then there’s the fact that while the dealers/techs may not always be the sharpest if there’s ONE thing the raises the red “modded flag” on a turbo vehicle it’s that universally recognized giant “COBB” IC smiling @ ya through the grill. Even if you’re not tuned- they’ll assume you are/were regardless what you say. And speaking of that, isn’t it also kinda sorta the case you may NEED a tune to run properly & prevent codes w/ a large FMIC - and some CAIs as well?

that’s why I just think if you’re going to upgrade the IC sticking w/ a stock mount one like mishimoto/Wagner/Garrett/CVF/whipple etc is a safer bet. Not like you don’t have choices. Aside from the fact I think Ford would have a tough time blaming a stock mounted replacement IC on warranty denial when it requires Zero modification of the vehicle & functions/fits as stock just better flowing.....I also think many dealers wouldn’t even freaking notice it unless they were specifically working on something there & related to it

You can not agree all you want, the facts are stacking is a non issue. Been tested and proven. As for your point of an IC in the stock location - I don't think it gets enough air in there, why do you think Ford had to put fans on the intercooler? I've never seen fans on an intercooler before in my life. Also, if Ford wants to void the warranty related to an aftermarket IC, it isn't going to matter where it is.
