Was ready to do my oil change, but was caught completely by surprise by the oil pan. It’s metal on a 17 produced in 2/17. Has this been seen before? Recently purchased it used with 37,000 miles used.

Odd. I was pretty sure the metal pan/plug change did not occur until the 2nd half of 2018, so all I can assume is that the prior owner swapped it out.

They didn't start using metal oil pans until 2/26/18. So either the P.O. had the oil pan swapped or maybe the engine was replaced?

for sure the previous owner must have had it swapped or the engine swapped like the other guys said. i’m on my 3rd plastic oil pan and it has oil all over it, i just haven’t felt like taking it again.

Car fax indicates the “Long Block was replaced” around 21,000 miles. Could that be the reason? Did a google search but that didn’t indicate anything specific for the raptor.

Yes that would explain it, you have a new motor.

Anything I should watch for? vehicle has been running fine for the last 3k miles. What are typical reasons for the engine to be swapped on the gen 2s? Would they have touched the turbos? I know the later models have better compression.

What do you mean by "I know the later models have better compression", could you elaborate? I am pretty sure all the Gen 2 Raptors have the same compression ratio, 10:1, for all years so far. The non-HO version of the 3.5 EB was increased from 10:1 to 10.5:1 I think, but not the Raptor motor.
