Well, judging by the way the "bullets" are arranged on the Ford Pass website, the whole mess may need to be overhauled.

that has nothing to do with the actual source file, which is what is corrupted.

If I had to guess, some genius used a compression algorithm that most decompression utilities either don't use or can't license. Or they are using a compression utility on a linux box that doesnt play nice with windows or mac.

It also may have something to do with partition formatting.

We used to have a limitation for installing our firmware/software packages where a usb drive that was larger than 8GB would not be work.

Theres a good chance that the core sync OS is a rather old GNU licensed linux, which would create this issue. It kinda really hinges on how they compile.

I know this. Just seems odd that the webpage layout wasn't corrected before it went live. I guess they figured it was "good enough."
yep.

Figured it out. The permissions that get tagged on the 2 offending files are not POSIX compliant and Windows doesn't handle them well in conjunction with the way drives are formatted with the Windows disk utility.

There is a good chance that if you have a USB drive that still has the "factory" format, the entire process will just work. You might want to try a "freshie" first.

Here's what worked ( since I usually format and encrypt any removable media that I use):

On a mac...

Rename the file before downloading/saving.

Download the file.

16GB drive.

Reformat the drive with disk utility ( exfat)

Copy file to USB BEFORE trying to open it.

I used Stuffit Expander to expand because that is what they call out in their "instructions"

Expand onto USB drive.

Copy newly uncompressed files/folders onto the root of the USB drive.

Eject

Install in truck.

Any other order of operations would fail on windows or mac.

I have a feeling that doing it in this exact order avoids the POSIX translation challenges that everyone seems to have when flipping files from unix to linux to windows.

Hope this helps!

I am using windows, renamed file to sync.zip, then downloaded and moved to clean exfat 32g usb drive. Still won't unzip, on usb drive or otherwise. If I am understanding your instructions, anyway.

The over the air update seems to be loading okay so far, albeit very slowly.

If you reformat the USB drive with windows, it won't work.

It might work if you have a fresh out of the package usb drive, because they are usually formatted with a linux or unix machine.

If you have access to a Mac, and use the mac disk utility to reformat as exfat, it should work. ( OSX is based on Unix)

I don't know if the windows zip utilities have the same algorithm libraries as Stuffit Expander, so that could cause an issue too.

Still waiting for that report.

Mine has been downloading for a long time now.
Ha. Same here! I gave up on it. Seemed to get about 1/3 of the way then stopped.
I may just do the russian hack job version, not a major priority. Only issue I notice is that sometimes the radio reverts back to AM, instead of whatever I left it on, usually XM.

Hello All, I got a sync3 update notification today for my 2019 raptor. Has anybody completed this?

I completed it a couple of weeks ago via USB. I had v3.3 before the update and it was still v3.3 after the update. I heard people talking about v3.4, but I couldn't find any references to v3.4 on the ford website.
