I use rotella T6 and do it every 3k miles, if I’m lazy it’ll make it to 4k miles. I wouldn’t push it past 6k-7k miles on any oil change no matter the vehicle. Oil just loses to much viscosity at that point for me to feel comfortable running it.

IMO you went too long for your first change. Should have changed it at 25-3000 and started using full synthetic. From then on no more than 5000 is the way to go. I also believe you should get a catch can installed. Run 93 octane non ethanol if available, better gas mileage and it makes these bad boys perform. Personally I look at the oil life but just to see what it says, I change every 5 with rotate & balance. I have an 18 now in 2 years with no issues. Running it like I stole it and she just keeps on pulling!

Have to (partially) agree, I did my first change at about 1800 miles, and put in Mobil-1 full syn then, and have stuck w/it for changes #2 and 3 (only 18K miles so far). The first change I went to 50% on the oil life monitor (roughly 4200 miles), and the Blackstone lab report said my TBN (additives) were still well w/in limit at 3.4 (anything over 1 is still fine).. I just changed the oil again at oil life monitor reading 33%/6800 miles, waiting for the B'stone report on that one. I mostly do open highway driving, not a lot of city/stop and go, so your mileage may vary. Depending on this B'stone report on the wear metals/TBN, I may or may not go to 25% on the oil life monitor next time. Supposedly it is an 'intelligent' system, so it would vary oil life by driving habits, but I want to also stay on the conservative/change earlier than needed side as well. M-1 served me well in my Tacoma (185K miles, never burned a drop and ran smooth and quiet when I sold it) so I'll stick with that. Amsoil, Royal Purple, and the aforementioned Pennzoil are all probably fine as well. IMHO it's not which specific product you use, but that you keep it fresh and well filtered.

Based on my B'stone numbers, 5000 may be a bit early. Wear metals (mind you on a still fairly fresh engine) were below unit averages (other EcoBoost averages) and the TBN was good. 10,000...not sure I'd go that far either, looking like around 7500 will be my standard. But to each his/her own preference, I'm not going to criticize either approach. I'm just finding out where MY comfort level is going to be with this engine. I did 5k changes on the Tacoma, but never did a Blackstone on it. This motor has turbos to keep lubed, and more than 2x power, so it's an entirely different animal, and I want PLENTY of cushion between when I change the oil, and when it (the oil) would have been 'exhausted'.

I use whatever the dealer puts in when they change the oil for $39. The stuff must be fantastic because I burn no oil and have not had any probs in over 40k miles

(sarcasm intended for the guys who push a brand because they havent had any problems)

isnt that oil made for diesels ? why use that ?

I thought about changing my initial oil change earlier but did it @ 4,700 miles which IMO is not waiting too long.

I had planned on changing it out every 7,500 miles with Penzoil Platinum full synthetic and Motorcraft filter but may end up changing it every 5,000 miles.

My oil change interval for my other two trucks was 10,000 miles with Mobile One full synthetic and Mobile One's extended filter but since this is a high Performance engine with turbos I'll definitely be reducing the interval time.

Might even get oil analysis from Blackstone to help identify the best interval.
